I worked at Motorola Solutions full-time

    Pros

Motorola has great brand recognition throughout the IT community. Very pleasant workplace with good people. Great work/life balance. Great benefits. Good vacation accrual rate.

    Cons

Too much red tape to get things done in a timely manner at times. There are specific processes one must go through to get anything done. It is for good reason but often hinders progress.

    Advice to Management

Recognize and retain your good people to help the continuity with the customer base. Remove the politics often encountered in the workplace.

I have been working at Motorola Solutions full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Some jobs allow working from home .. But soon diminishing.

    Cons

Upper management being critical to even top performing individuals Workplace Morale is horrible Raises are typically 2% Those that commute to Schaumburg will have to drive to Chicago as they are shutting down 90% of the existing campus because they aren't getting any more tax breaks from the village. CEO loves playing word games in town halls and lies Diminished benefits Bonus- not worth the postage stamp after taxes Layoffs every quarter-- higher at Thanksgiving time.

    Advice to Management

Do 360 degree feedback and sensitivity training Learn to mentor people and start caring about those that have been with the company a long time (loyalty)

I have been working at Motorola Solutions full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The products are focused on public safety. The engineers will work nights and weekends to support our customers. Incredible dedication!

    Cons

Too many rumors. Too much change happening all at once- moving, IT systems, re-orgs, Quarterly layoffs.

    Advice to Management

Stop focusing on simplify and figure out the growth plan or sell.

I have been working at Motorola Solutions full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Strong customer loyalty and large distribution network through Motorola dealers.

    Cons

Shrinking customer base due to Industry-wide move towards Broadband, LTE and software-based technologies.

    Advice to Management

Move faster in educating the current sales team and improving the sales model to move away from product towards software subscriptions.

I worked at Motorola Solutions (More than a year)

    Pros

Great corporate culture. It's nice to be able to say that your product is something that helps save lives. It used to be a big company and one could move around a lot.

    Cons

It only felt stable for about 4 years out of 20. I was always worried about layoffs, but at least they were big enough that you could usually find something else within the company.

    Advice to Management

This company should be treated like a utility.
