I have been working at Mounds View Public full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Supportive administration, high expectations, good benefits

    Cons

There is little professional development and the parents of the district are very hands on--which is a good thing, but they are involved to the point where some students aren't taking on their own education.

    Pros

Great district leadership, good pay, excellent benefits, district is supportive of their schools.

    Cons

Poor communication, lack of desire to assist lower-level learners, decisions to keep tenured teachers with poor performances.

  3.

Passionate people, plenty of resources... but in the end, it's a bureaucracy

I worked at Mounds View Public part-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Kids are well behaved (yet human, not robotic)
Most teachers are passionate and work hard
Administration tends to play a supportive, non-invasive role
    Google Apps for education!
    Great special ed programs

    Cons

Like so many school districts they have begun equipping every teacher with an iPad and every classroom with a set of laptops but they have glossed over the educational technology strategy they will need to utilize those assets. These things can be used to teach kids, but currently, they are simply a distraction.

While special ed is extremely important, more focus needs to be placed on the high preforming students. They are being "enriched" with rigorous coursework, but some creative thinking and street smarts should be added to the mix.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Your employees already want to work for you. MV is the best district in MN to work for. Don't leverage dumb perks.

I support equipping your teachers with technology, but they need to know HOW to use it. Hire some 20-somethings to teach them. And please pour more resources into the IT and IT support networks so that technology is never a headache.

    Recommends
    Positive Outlook
