Current Employee – been working at Mount Saint Mary College

Pros – Easy job, nice people. The campus is beautiful and there seem to be a lot of opportunities for growth. Much of the higher administration is on the verge of retirement, so lots of opportunities come up often.

Cons – The higher-ups let their titles go to their heads. A lot of waste, which is reflected in high tuition costs. Amenities such as parking, coffee, food, etc, are hard to come by.

Former Employee – worked at Mount Saint Mary College full-time for more than a year

Pros – Local job that offers decent pay (not great) and benefits. Has an average vacation and time-off policy and can take classes for reduced tuition after one year. If you are lazy and someone who doesn't do a good job this is a great place since everyone gets the same pay increase each year regardless of how you perform.

Cons – The college has double standards and you will find a couple departments working like crazy while others have nothing to do and lots of staff sitting around surfing the Internet. In addition, most of the staff are students who graduated from the college and never had any other work experience so they are not very good at what they do especially those who rise to the ranks of management. Also the classes are very dated and the professors are not open to upgrading programs (they would need to learn something new). The goal for students who attend college is to obtain employment once they graduate an in order to do this they need to have current skills that are recognized in their industry not stuff from the 1990.

Advice to Senior Management – Take a look at the staff and open your eyes and you will see there are some real issues within the college. Even though I graduated from MSMC and worked in the private sector for 20 years I cannot recommend this college to anyone...simply not the best education money can buy in the area.

Great people and community
Some great perks, like lunchtime yoga classes
Close to major highways
Great views of the mountains

Cons – High levels of turnover
Unclear expectations can make it difficult to complete job requirements

Advice to Senior Management – I think that any time management trusts its workers and gives them the freedom to do their job in the best way that they know how that is when the best solutions and work will emerge.
