Pros
Focus on translational medicine. Great location, close to the beautiful central park. Great medical insurance package. Great if you would like to become a doctor.
Cons
As a graduate student there is limited resources here, compared to larger universities. We are affiliated to NYU but do not really get to enjoy much of their resources. Not much career development services, such as resume critique, mock interview, career fair, etc.
Advice to Senior Management
It would be nice if collaboration with NYU could be promoted on all levels, so that students have access to more resources.

If you work in the Orthopedics department you will spend most of your time lifting boxes all day for two old ladies.
Pros
Good benefits, excellent facilities, non-toxic work environment all describe Mount Sinai. Cutting-edge medicine with competent, friendly physicians, nurses and medical staff.
Cons
Management interference and regulation of medical professionals can be burdensome. The new EMR system is complicated, and tough to master.
Advice to Senior Management
Try to decrease the regulation of medical professionals, to allow them to do their job more effectively and provide more incentive.
Pros
You get a paycheck, health insurance and retirement. .
Cons
Working at Mount Sinai was one of the most horrific experiences of my life. The goal there seems to be to squash all the spirit out of its employees, to completely break them. There is absolutely no respect. Hired for your skills and experience? Forget it. The dean, and the doctors, make all the decisions. Irrational demands, long hours, demoralizing, no interest in quality. I've never experienced such widespread low morale.
Advice to Senior Management
Admit that you don't know everything and let the experts do what they were hired to do. Treat your employees like human beings, with respect.
Pros
Working at Mount Sinai has allowed me to pursue all my professional goals while working alongside many experts in their field.
Cons
The hours can be very long and the direct patient can is always emotional. This can sometimes take a toll.
Advice to Senior Management
Always remember what type of institution we serve (not for profit) and attempt to always balance business concerns with quality patient care.
Pros
collaborative environment
cutting edge research
location
excellent medical school
good health benefits
Cons
low salary
affordability
space
housing
job availability
expensive cafeteria
crime near the hospital
Pros
Those whom you do not to have to deal with to get things done are friendly.
Cons
Paperwork for hiring and clearance is very slow. You need a lot of patience and you have to make many calls to find out the problem, and make many more to solve it. The people aren't helpful.
Advice to Senior Management
It's very inefficient. No one takes responsibility! When asked who the best to talk to, they themselves do not know. When asked why things are taking such a long time to be handled, they said "its the other department's fault! The other department is the one that slow things down." My advice will be try and be undercover boss - as a new hire ... at all levels, to experience it. Also, please re-train the staffs.
