    Pros

Mountain America offers competitive pay and benefits for their niche in the banking industry. There is a community atmosphere that shows in their interactions with the members and the community. They are focused on balance growth which provides for a secure work environment

    Cons

Pay isn't quite comparable with the a bank job for similar work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Recognition of fast track employees and their development might help generate employee loyalty and eliminate some of the high turnover.

I worked at Mountain America Credit Union (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Amazing people. Good culture. Excellent benefits.

    Cons

lacking in leadership. There are a few great leaders (the CEO is one of them) but overall, most are managers not leaders. Hard to get inspired.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do 360s or some other review of leaders and make it safe. There is a lot of water cooler talk about how bad the senior leaders are but no one dares to say anything. Have candid interviews with employees and then do something about it. I was asked to take dozens of surveys and I was honest about my frustrations but nothing ever happened. People on my team told me not to bother because no one really listens, after time, I agreed.

I worked at Mountain America Credit Union full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    Clean, visually appealing, great benefits

    Cons

TOO many managers/VP's and not enough specialists which results in a crazy workload for those who are not managers.. Communication with upper-management is non existent. and there are too many inconsistencies between departments and expectations. Many incompetent people who do not get let go and too many great employees who get demoted.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start listening to your specialists and have EVERYONE receive a review (i.e. allow employees to review their bosses).

    Pros

Personal Growth, incentives, company culture, great co-workers, opportunities for growth.

    Cons

    On the job stress, competitive

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Close some of the gaps between corporate and branch leadership. Not all of the things from corporate (which would have been helpful) were instituted correctly.

Also more hands on training when employees begin working.

I worked at Mountain America Credit Union part-time

    Pros

I really enjoyed the flexibility, if I had family needs the management was more than happy to work with me. There was no overhead corporate pressure, the ball was completely in the manager's hands in reference to what happens in the branch. (in reference to his or her employees)

    Cons

As a teller, it seems dead end.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Work with your tellers as much as you can, and be sure to stay positive.

I have been working at Mountain America Credit Union full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

I have worked here for over 5 years and in each area I work, the employees are very kind and welcoming and generally want you to succeed. You are given a lot of control on what can be done to assist the membership and lessen their stress.

    Cons

Several years ago the excutive staff had some major shake ups when the current CEO took his position. The company became more about what they can do for themselves and less what can be done for the members and even less of what can be done for the employees. For financial instituions of comparable sizes in the area, the salaries here are lacking and you hit the salary cap pretty quickly. As for getting a promotion...there is little chance of that unless you offer outrageous claims of what you want to do, instead of what you can and will do. it is a little like running for class president back in high school, it is a popularity contest. Most employees get stuck in their current positions because of the large amount of external hiring that is done.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take the time to value your employees a little more and actually offer the competitve wages you say you have. Stop buying out every financial institution that you can and instead, invest some of the money into higher share rates. Really shake up the financial world in your area, because I can garauntee that with higher share rates you will get a lot more new members.
