I have been working at Mountain States Health full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

The best reasons to work here are:
    1. Ability to move up in your career
    2. Have a feeling of importance when the team is making decisions
    3. The ability to see new technologies.
    4. Lots of experience on projects from purchasing the equipment to implementing into the network environment.
    5. Competitive salary for the area
    6. Managers and directors are very nice and down to earth
    7. Fairly laid back environment - you have responsibilities, so do them and everyone is happy

    Cons

A few political issues but nothing uncommon with a very large corporation. Definitely nothing to be majorly concerned about. No one likes politics but it's nothing that someone couldn't handle.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Not too many suggestions for management. Communication may be better but is sufficient. Management does a great job with keeping the team of all of the items going on. Another great thing about the management is that they will stand up and fight for his/her team during conference calls and etc which shows great leadership and keeps the team close together!

I worked at Mountain States Health

    Pros

Coworkers smart and helpful. Free parking.

    Cons

Management arrogant and uncaring. Often hear from management you're lucky to have a job and your not a team player. HR disrespects IT professionals and doesn't understand their importance and value.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The IT department is broken and HR hurts the department more than helps. Maybe too late to fix the department.

I have been working at Mountain States Health full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Largest healthcare system in the air. Comprised of 15 hospitals serving 29 counties. Includes a level 1 trauma center and children's hospital. Partnered with St Jude, Vanderbilt University.

    Cons

Lowest RN salaries in state of Virginia. Tennessee hospitals pay higher hourly rate than Virginia hospitals. High level of turnover.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take better care of your employees. Many feel taken advantage of and under-appreciated. Pay more attention to living the patient centered care motto and no so much bottom line.

  9. Wish there were more places to choose from to work at..

I worked at Mountain States Health

    Pros

respected in the community, largest healthcare employer in the region, wellness center

    Cons

Poor benefits, nonexistent raises, no performance based raises, enforce rules with scare tactics, poor nurse patient staff ratios, money hemorrhaging into things, facilities, and programs that do not impact patient care, more money needed for front line patient caregivers

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Positive reinforcement would go much further with team members rather than repercussion tactics. I have seen a lot of great employees leave over the years for more pay and better work hours. Middle management's hands are tied..it's the higher ups calling the shots in staffing and they do not even know what it is like to be a bedside nurse. It is all cookie cutter to them with no regards to individualized care and the time and staff it takes to provide such.

  10. The Mountain States Health Alliance working atmosphere is very team oriented.

    Cons

The wages offered at MSHA are below average compared to wages provided in the surrounding geographical area.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I have been working at Mountain States Health full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

I felt like I was truly a part of a team. The benefits are great and the cost is reasonable. I love that there is room to grow and move up in this company. If you truly apply yourself and show some initiative, you can move up the ladder. I have heard people complain about no room for advancement, but it has been my experience that those are usually unmotivated people. There are also a lot of opportunities to make a different and volunteer to help others. MSHA is involved in many community events and really cares about the local area.

    Cons

I don't have a college degree but have a lot of experience. There are some jobs that I would love to be able to apply for that I know I would excel at but am limited because of my education. I wish that in some of those positions they would consider experience.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be sure to let your team members know when they do a good job and not just when they make mistakes. When people feel good about their work they excel and when they don't, they do the minimum required to keep their jobs. Be friendly to the little guys. It takes a whole team to make it work as a system.
