Supportive staff and admin, well equipped, focus on students.

    ESL Instructor (Former Employee)
    Walnut, CA

ProsStudents and quality instruction were priorities. Admin and staff very supportive with ideas, logistics, and equipment when available. Classrooms had a computer, Elmo (doc projector), and digital projector, Teachers had in-service participation and PD opportunities. There was a fair amount of collaboration and productive planning. Pay was reasonable.

ConsThere were no F/T options; total hours at the college limited to 60%.

Advice to Senior ManagementContinue to offer support to teachers and aides. Allow more hours.

The educational environment is rewarding, but advancement opportunities are nearly non-existent.

    Computer Facilities Assistant (Current Employee)
    Walnut, CA

ProsSolving problems and helping students is very rewarding. The pay and vacation time are quite good, even for part timers. For the most part it is a pretty relaxed atmosphere.

ConsThe hiring policy seems designed to stop anyone from moving up internally. Going from part time to full time is very unlikely. Management seems largely deaf to the suggestions and complaints of lower level employees.

Advice to Senior ManagementPay attention to your employees and work to ensure their happiness. Happy employees means better service, and better serving our students to get them the education they need is the entire point of the college's existence.

Best education I could have received for free

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsThere are hundreds of classes to choose from. The hospitality program is excellent. The tennis program is a blast, and it seems like the majority of teachers actually care.

ConsIt is hard to get classes sometimes until you have priority registration.

    INCREDIBLE opportunity.

    Student Assistant (Former Employee)
    Walnut, CA

ProsFlexible schedule (very accommodating to class schedule), satisfaction from teaching students and experiencing their "A HA!" moment, competitive pay, opportunity for a raise by taking tutor training courses, can do homework when the students don't need help.

ConsAs far as I can remember, there are no cons.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend

Excellent place to work, thus far.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    Walnut, CA

    ProsCompetitive salary
    Flexible schedule
    Good benefits package
    Good management team
    Very generous vacation/PTO programs

The majority of people are wonderful and love what they do. Working for an educational institution empowers you and really makes you feel like your work actually makes a difference in the lives of others.

ConsNo real inner-campus job advancement benefit. When hiring new employees they always look for the best fit, even if it means hiring somebody from the outside.

Very little, if any benefit at all for employees who are students. No paid tuition, no priority registration, etc. Understandable since the economy isn't at its best right now.

Some departmental politics, but not too much. You're going to find that anywhere you go, so just get used to it.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep doing what you're doing.
