I have been working at Mu Sigma full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Amazing peer group, very energetic and open-minded environment
Leadership connect is simply brilliant and most top line folks make it a part of life to connect with all employees
Challenging work and high bar of performance gets the very best out of you
    The girls
A feeling of being a part of something radical

    Cons

There is a vast gap in high performers and mediocre/low performers (and this rather huge part of the population keeps on churning in and out). The fast growing business is now moving at nearly break-neck speed and this puts the high performing folks under immense pressure, ultimately taking toll by either unfortunate churn-out or their loss of interest in work.

I have been working at Mu Sigma full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Fantastic culture - Driven by young, energetic people who love a good laugh; the people you work with are THE reason you will love working here

Variety of opportunities - In a single week, you might teach a technology to a fresh batch of inductees, go to an open discussion on increasing the efficacy of a statistical model, take part in a TT/foosball tournament, attend a learning hour conducted by a (usually senior) colleague, get on stage & participate in a debate like you were back in college, visit the I&D lab to check out the latest, attend an intra-org interview to try and jump to the sales/marketing department, all in addition to getting your daily work done

Freedom to fail - At Mu Sigma, the belief is that everyone is capable of doing everything.. and through the right approach, one can avail opportunities to explore & find what they are best at

Innovative policies - A rule that forbids anyone staying in the same account longer than 18 months unless they wish to, regular 'Fun Fridays' that always come with boxfuls of chocolates, mini food-festivals at the cafeteria, and a host of other things

Career Growth - From facing a client at about 3 months into the org to dealing with managers only a couple years elder to you, you will rapidly grow through diverse experience

No micro-management - On the bright side of having managers who are about your age, you get to go about your work at your own pace, in your own manner as long as you set & meet timelines

Exposure - A well-respected flat hierarchy ensures that you are able to reach out to almost anyone, including the senior leadership, to discuss matters that make a difference (anywhere from you as an individual, to the org as a whole)

I suppose the best way to summarize would be.. 'Help will always be given at Mu Sigma to those who ask for it!'

    Cons

No control over attrition - In general, there is an opinion that focus on processes & products take priority over people; this results in significant attrition whereby a lot of the people with whom you built relationships leave the org leading to a repetitive chain of transitioning people in & out of teams

Weak communication - Certain policies sound different when communicated by different sources, and when communicated prior to joining the org & post joining the org

Below market-average wages - Plenty of earning in terms of learning, but sufficient cause to complain for those whose main expectation from a job is salary

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Put greater emphasis on increasing people's tenure within the company - ensure uptake of available recognition mechanisms, compromise/tailor one or two existing policies to generate goodwill

I have been working at Mu Sigma full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Unlike other companies, Mu Sigma provides a chance to actively and directly engage with the client from an early stage. Learning and implementing on-the-fly, working under hard deadlines and pulling out of seemingly impossible situations helps groom an individual for the longer run. College-like atmosphere, merit based allocation of work/responsibilities and the chance to freely interact with the senior-most members of the company (including the Founder-CEO) are additional plus points.

    Cons

Time spent in office are more than "normal", but average working hours aren't. Pay is less than average for the the first year/year and a half, however this too evens out in the long run. Exposure to different verticals does happen but takes time and is again merit/need based (may leave a few folks disappointed).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Since the pay structure and "working hours" cannot be altered, focus needs to be on engaging the employees on a regular basis as well as ensuring a variety of work over the fixed 3 year cycle.

I have been working at Mu Sigma full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Mu Sigma has taught me many things. But the greatest learning has been 'learning to care'. I used to think that being successful was about being smart and ruthless. But Mu Sigma culture inextricably links success with caring too. You are taught to care - About results, about inputs AND outputs, about your employees, your bosses, your cafeteria, your end goals and your design to achieve that end goal. Your team progress, your team fun. You clients and your client's clients. Volleyball matches to million dollar proposals. You are taught to care

    Cons

For anyone looking for cons - Please watch Dan Savage's price of admission video on You tube. Its about 6 mins and sums everything up nicely
