I have been working at Mueller Industries full-time

    Pros

Decent work/life balance. Friendly co-workers and focus on teamwork. Everyone takes pride in their work and puts in a lot of hard work to get the job done.

    Cons

Very lean work environment. No replacements for people who retire or are let go. Low base wage and overall culture has a lot of people always worried that they will be fired.

    Advice to Management

Easier to retain high caliper employees if salaries were higher.

    Pros

Plenty of challenges as priorities change daily. Mature industry. Nice company fishing boat and plane.

    Cons

Too many to list. Poor HR practices, and internal communications. incentive bonus plans highly skewed so that senior management always over achieve their targets but targets so unrealistic for divisional employees that that they can't achieve decent bonuses. Bully tactics from top down.

    Advice to Management

Board of Directors should get more involved in understanding the real culture and reason why employees are running out the doors.

I have been working at Mueller Industries full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    I enjoy improving customer relations

    Cons

Advancement opportunity only given to certain people; access to training tools not offered to certain people; management tolerates unprofessional behavior; too many other cons to even bother with writing them

    Advice to Management

Any would be advice will just fall on deaf ears, as management does not seem to care about being advised by its subordinates.

I worked at Mueller Industries full-time

    Pros

Average benefits but nothing positive about this company. NOTHING

    Cons

Too many to list. TOXIC work environment, they do not want to pay employees even average going rates. Management is a joke, some employees are so rude and out there they should not have a job but management overlooks that. They will make you do 4 people's jobs and not even pay you for one. The training is also a joke. B&K is a division of Mueller and they really need some structure. I believe like 20 people have walked out in the past 4 months, I was told it once was a good company, now I advise everyone to run away. I am a positive person and I had to pray each day before going in bc that place drains your soul. I got a better job and gave notice, so of course I was used until the last moment.

    Advice to Management

Listen, care and provide appropriate pay to your employees. You are a company with a revolving door and for good reason.

    Pros

The company is very straight forward with a no-nonsense approach to things. They have full benefits and are a strong company in a good market.

    Cons

The organizational structure can change at times and the pay could be better.

I worked at Mueller Industries full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Exposure to management and c-level executives. Financially stable company. Huge portfolio of products. Old, respected industry name.

    Cons

Lack of resources. Lose lots of people and don't replace them; others expected to absorb the workload. Don't value work/life balance. Very different treatment depending on divisions. Management can't make decisions without corporate sign off.

    Advice to Management

    Hire people.

I worked at Mueller Industries full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The insurance is good. There are many good people working there.

    Cons

OVERTIME. OVERTIME. OVERTIME. These people had rather work a man to death than hire someone else. SInce the new contract was ratified, new employees only get paid about 70% of what old contract employees get paid. New contract employees can expect to receive 2 weeks paid vacation after 2 years of service whereas old contract hands get 5 weeks. The heat is terrible. At any given time during the summer, it is at least 100 degrees in the tube mill. Winter months are spent shivering unless you are lucky enough to work in casting or extrusion. The union ( USW Local 8420 ) is a joke. Mueller has the union officials in their pockets. There are no training programs. If you do get a job there you'd better be a quick learner. If you start off in shipping, driving a forklift, or a few other jobs you can expect to top out at $11 per hour and that is after working there for 2 years. Older hands are making $17 - $20 per hour for doing the exact same job you do. Machinery is outdated. Many safety issues go unresolved. If you are married, forget about a family life. Expect to work 12 hours a day until further notice. Forget about working day shift for at least 5 years, or if you're lucky enough to get on days, expect to either come in early or work late for an untold length of time. Forget about weekends because you will be working 2 straight weekends with the third off if you don't get drafted. It just ain't worth working there anymore. At one time, Mueller was THE place to work. That time is long gone.

    Advice to Management

Stop putting profits before people!! Go back to the old contract and stop using money as an excuse to get away with murder. CARE ABOUT YOUR EMPLOYEES!!

    Great employees and wonderful benefits.

    Cons

Pay is not that great. Raises were usually limited to around 2 to 3 percent per year.
