I worked at Murphy Oil full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

I thoroughly enjoyed the advancement opportunities. Also, the ability to travel among the district and give assistance to fellow team members.

    Cons

No work-life balance at all. No growth potential beyond store manager unless you have a super supportive District Manager who doesn't feel threaten by you and your skills.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider promoting those who you use so frequently. Offer better incentives for managers who consistently show improvement. Also, allow managers more time off to spend with families. Hold the ASM's accountable for the business to prepare them for next level leadership.

I have been working at Murphy Oil part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Its always great to meet new coworkers, get to know your customers, all while having a laid back job and flexible hours.

    Cons

Management could use some work. The hours could be better. They advertise benefits but will not provide you woth the hours necessary unless you are a manager or assistant manager.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you can't pay cashiers more, or give the benefits that are advertised, at least give the hours we need to pay the bills.

I worked at Murphy Oil full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Good competitive environment and good pay and compensation.

    Cons

A few overzealous leaders get in the way of good development.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Promotion from within supposed to be a good thing but some of the managers promoted to district managers makes life so difficult for the store managers, cursing at them at will and treating them with utmost disrespect, also threathening them with their job. Some real nice people in higher management that you can reach out to but who wants to do that all the time because of an incompetent supervisor .

I worked at Murphy Oil full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

    Good pay and decent benefits

    Cons

If your store is short-handed, good luck getting to use any of your vacation time.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It's sad that you would rather hire new people instead of taking care of your long term employees with decent raises, letting them actually get to use their vacation they've earned.

I have been working at Murphy Oil full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

They need to revamp their procedures of opening and have enough manpower to complete your task

    Cons

Have to work to many hours and have so few employees that you have to be the one fill in if someone calls out

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look at your Managers, who is a manager and a customer representative and who is just there in the position to draw a check and don't care about customers or the employees. There is way to much turn over in the company
