I have been working at Murphy USA

    Pros

Decent pay, commissions, love my customers, paid holidays, vacation time (when you are staffed enough to take it), free trip yearly.

    Cons

No breaks, must stand for minimum of 10 hrs a day, cashiers can only work a max of 25 hrs a week making it almost impossible to find dependable good help, when ur understaffed u are expected to cover the store no matter how many hours is required, no help from the DM, absolutely no work/life balance, murphy has to be your life, DM'S constantly bothering you when you do actually get a day off. It used to be a really great place to work but as time goes on their expectations are becoming outrageous. You feel like they want you to be a robot and never get tired or never spend time with your family. I would not recommend Murphy to anyone. Store managers are required to do all pump maintenance which is dangerous and ridiculous. Required to ride gas surveys 3 times a day which is pointless. Have to check comp prices on beer and cigs monthly when it doesn't matter how cheap someone else is...they still won't lower your prices to compete, so why waste your time. Think before you decide to apply.

    Pros

Great people, company does believe in promoting from within, and decent benefits. National manager meeting is awesome and a great learning experience. You feel like there is someone who is paying attention and listening to what we have to say.

    Cons

Hours!!! There is no family work balance you are required to put in 50 plus hours a week as a manager. Cashiers are only allowed 25 hours a week. It is hard to stay within budget hours. If someone quits it comes out of your commission. It is hard to find time to get anything outside of Murphy done. It is becoming a very large company and I think home office is having trouble keeping up.

    Pros

Compensation in pay is adequate if you are willing to put your personal life on hold. Don't promote those that have proven ability.

    Cons

    Managers need better managing skills

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to recognize long term employees.

I have been working at Murphy USA

    Pros

Nothing good comes out of this job.

    Cons

No breaks, no benefits, crappy hours. At my store no employee could work over 25 hours in a week unless you're the Manager or Assist Manager. And getting 24-25 hours was on a good week! I typically stayed in the 12-16 hours a week range and was there for a good 4 months. The nightshift guy quit so I thinking I could guarantee 25 hours a week if I took his position, so I did and was getting 24 hours for about a month until they hired someone else and bumped me back down to 12 hours again, that was when I walked out. The kind of work they ask you to do is ridiculous too, I've worked at previous other gas stations but never have I ever had to "amour-all the trash cans" or " paint over the oil/gas spots outside" on a weekly basis. Over-work under paid, I know that's the slogan for most jobs, but at Murphys you definitely feel it. You're better off just finding work some where else, it''ll be worth it

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give you're employees some breaks and stop being greedy with the hours.

    Pros

Wonderful customers, good pay, flexible hours, semi good benefits, good people to work with.

    Cons

Nobody cares for you if your position is under a store manager, need better benefits, better pay scale for amount of work that is done.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice
