Interesting and challenging place to work. Go for the experience, though do not expect meaningful advancement.

I worked at NACG full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Some good work pockets to work in. They can be flexible for some life/work balance. No or little problem with holiday time off and a good health package.

    Cons

Field work has a very high turn over rate. Office moderate turn over rate. Very clicky. They have lost a lot of good people because promotions seem more based on friendships and associations then merit. Senior managements talk is not congruent with their actions or discipline processs

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Senior management seems out of touch with the general work force.

I have been working at NACG full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Good benefits, my manager gave good direction

    Cons

    - low morale and dropping
    - company lays off their most experienced, hard working employees and keeps the less experienced ones to save money
    - lack of training, I've seen many employees get thrown into busy roles and no idea what to do
    - fort mcmurray office were not compensated for moving office from town to on site
    - favouritism
    - pay is on the low side
    - low job security

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Your employees are over worked.

How do you expect people to work hard for you when they see you laying off the hard workers?

    I worked at NACG

    Pros

Good pay, excellent bonus and incentive program, some nice people to work with. Many other "good" challenges

    Cons

Poor management, infighting at the senior management level plainly visible to employees, financial burden put squarely on employees make it very difficult to be successful. Finances driven with poor decisions being made regularly.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get rid of the deadwood at the senior management level that are infighting and focus on company objectives like staying in business before you go under!

I worked at NACG full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Good pay. Good schedule. Good people for most part.

    Cons

You have to be from Newfoundland in order to progress. Lots of favoritism. Treat Heavy Haul Operators like second hand citizens. Racism is tolerated. Foreman are usually good if not from Newfoundland. Senior management don't care about their employees. Never guaranteed to work day to day. Poor safety record and getting worse. You are kept in dark a lot. Poor communication

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start treating all employees the same and have some respect for them. They make or break you.

I have been working at NACG full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Opportunity to advance up the ladder quickly as lots of people quit due to former management that didn't have a clue about the business

    Cons

Company is recovering from struggles with debt and reputation because of the previous bad management that drove the company almost into bankruptcy

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to the construction folks and not the accountants. The overhead was killing the company and the large reduction in middle management is helping.

    Cons
