I have been working at NASCAR (More than a year)

    Pros

Awesome people to work with. Knowledgeable and experienced in all facets of competition and marketing. NASCAR fans are among the most dedicated in the world.

    Cons

long hours, short down time. Pay is commensurate to intermediate management, work is expected to mirror senior level management at all times.

    Advice to Management

Always remember to surround yourself with greatness. Those who do for you are the ones who get you your product expectation

I worked at NASCAR full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great work experience, and opportunities to learn skills. Get to travel the country following the tour.

    Cons

Poorly paid, over worked, have to be available pretty much 24/7 from Feb. - Nov. and work 40-60 hour weeks when you travel. Not much room for promotions or any pay raises. They pay cheap and hire young.

I worked at NASCAR (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Exciting atmosphere and great peers. Interesting environment to work in as well as a great part of town.

    Cons

Heavy amounts of favoritism and negativity with my supervisor in particular. Complete lack of communication and sense of partnership. Some of upper management seem to think they are celebrities.

    Advice to Management

Learn to communicate better to your direct reports. Learn to include everyone on your team in your team activities.

I have been working at NASCAR full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

NASCAR is an innovative company that is looking forward all the time. It is a great place to dig in an apply what you know. You can really make a difference in most areas of the company.

    Cons

Because NASCAR is so large and has so many unique business areas, it is sometimes hard to get a picture of all aspects of the company.

    Advice to Management

Continue making an effort to get to know employees at all levels of the organization and find ways to develop talent within the organization.

    Cons

Not enough money, strange hours, hard to move up.

I worked at NASCAR full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

You get to know a lot of people in the industry very quickly. Great for networking but mostly if you want to be in motorsports and related industried.

    Cons

Politics, politics, politics. Tons of politics at this organization. Department X doesn't really work with department Z so then year after year there is time and effort lost. They tend to hire from within the industry so it's an organization that doesn't often get new ideas or fresh blood. Most of the top leadership doesn't know much outside of NASCAR. Talent pool is very sub-par when compared to other major leagues. Most people who are not NASCAR fans or lifers don't last long.

    Advice to Management

Look for talent from outside the NASCAR family and actually try to get them to stick around.

I worked at NASCAR full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The benefits are great: medical, dental, vision, etc. PTO is relatively good. Free cell phone and plan is also nice.

    Cons

Women, especially young women, are not promoted as quickly as men and not compensated as well as men.
