I worked at NASCAR full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Senior leadership is great. The company has really listened to its employess and made changes to increase retention. Leadership creates an open environment that makes it easy to communicate issues and get quick solutions and direction.

    Cons

It's a traveling business, so there's a high probability you will have to travel. Pay isn't so great for new low and middle managers. You have to pay your dues to get raises. It's hard to maintain a family life with the schedule.

    Advice to Management

Make sure your low level coordinators and managers are not getting burned out with travel.

I worked at NASCAR full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

NASCAR is a unique environment that will definetly grow your career. You will have the opportunity to be exposed to situations that are extremely unique. The company has really made positive changes in the last few years to increase retention and promote a work/life balance.Car program is very nice.

    Cons

You're going to travel unless you're at the coordinator level in a support department role like, risk, legal, or finanace. Some days you'll need a very thick skin. Pay isn't great unless you've been there a while.

    Advice to Management

Make sure lower level people aren't getting burned out and under compensated.

The internship program is organized really well with meeting and networking with executives. Almost everyone there seem to be really good people.

    Cons

I was an intern so I can't complain- maybe the pay?

    Advice to Management

    Keep growing the sport!

I have been working at NASCAR full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

NASCAR execs are willing to promote from within and reward hard work. Benefits are great and people really care.

    Cons

There can be a lot of travel making it difficult to set boundaries. The culture, as everywhere, is if you have a cell phone, you are available. But again, that makes boundary setting less than ideal.

    Advice to Management

More time off during the week, please when I travel on weekends. And 3 weeks vacation is great, but for those of us with a long track record, more time off would be wonderful.

    Cons

if I had to pick something, it would have to be the travel, but it's the nature of our business

I have been working at NASCAR full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

NASCAR is an innovative company that is looking forward all the time. It is a great place to dig in an apply what you know. You can really make a difference in most areas of the company.

    Cons

Because NASCAR is so large and has so many unique business areas, it is sometimes hard to get a picture of all aspects of the company.

    Advice to Management

Continue making an effort to get to know employees at all levels of the organization and find ways to develop talent within the organization.

I have been working at NASCAR (More than a year)

    Pros

Awesome people to work with. Knowledgeable and experienced in all facets of competition and marketing. NASCAR fans are among the most dedicated in the world.

    Cons

long hours, short down time. Pay is commensurate to intermediate management, work is expected to mirror senior level management at all times.

    Advice to Management

Always remember to surround yourself with greatness. Those who do for you are the ones who get you your product expectation

Building cars out of wood is tough.

    Advice to Management

Get the builders some more metal, building fast cars outta wood is tough.

    Pros

Meeting all the drivers and the respect you get from fans. It is also great to work in an environment where you are surrounded by things that you love, in my case, NASCAR. You also have the opportunity to travle all over the United States and see places that you may not have other wise seen.

    Cons

There are a lot of downsides to working within NASCAR. You travel all the time and never get to see your family. They expect y ou to put work first and family last. It is great pay but really, really long hours. There are also al ot of big, big egos to deal with.

    Advice to Management

Think about your employees as individuals rather than just numbers.
