Pros
In the time you're there, you will learn more than you ever imagined.
Extremely hands-on, managers let interns write articles, and publish them
People are friendly
Meetings to catch up every morning
Cons
Quick turn-over rate; tons of interns, doors seem to close quickly
Pros
Good people, big network, connections.
Cons
sometimes slow, but otherwise, fun experience
Advice to Senior Management
give interns projects, not daily assignments
Pros
There is a lot of money for projects, and an eagerness to succeed.
Cons
The cash is spent unwisely; insider politics inhibit success.
Advice to Senior Management
Build a better meritocracy.
Pros
Foot in the Door to a Famed Entertainment Company
Get to Know the structure of many different departments and jobs
management willing to meet for informationals
Cons
lack of paid internship program results in lack of diversity. everyone there comes from wealth, with a few exceptions
lack of career placement for experienced interns in grad school
Advice to Senior Management
differentiate the grad intern program and career placement seminars from the undergrad program. most grad students are not interested in the page program
Pros
Lots of innovation; lots of freedom (work alone most of the time); good hours; pay is good; education program is worthwhile;
Cons
No perks; cafeteria food is at best OK;
Pros
Great opportunities for pitching new programs. Each production staff is not limited to working within itself - since there are many ongoing specials and re-cuts, the teams are often able to collaborate and expand their network of contacts.
Cons
With such a large company, moving up in position takes much longer than with most production companies. Also, although pitching new programs within the company is welcomed, the security of owning your idea can be somewhat difficult and political.
Advice to Senior Management
Manage your employees schedules to fit their range of duties as best as possible. Sometimes producers are scheduled to work a later shift to supervise their editors at night, but they need to make phone calls and attend meetings in the mornings to maintain relationships with vendors and prepare work for production. This conflict of schedules can cause an unnecessarily exhausting habit of overworking.
Pros
flexible schedule, good benefits and locations
Cons
as a place to work have not found some really bad points yet
Pros
The experience in marketing, hispanic market, entertainment and the large opportunity for networking. Telemundo is part of NBC universal and that looks great in a resume.
Cons
The entry level jobs pay low salaries in comparison to other fields. long hours are expected including nights and weekends.
Advice to Senior Management
Work on a better work life balance for employees, particularly after employee demonstrates high level of work and commitment.
Pros
Great company, great benefits, great people!
Cons
It is hard to move up!
Advice to Senior Management
Trust employees!
Pros
The employees are super friendly. Company resources unparalleled.
Cons
Hard to advance because of the nature of the heirarchy, even when one is eager and competent
Advice to Senior Management
Pay more attention to the future of your company, your interns.
