I worked at NBCUniversal (Less than a year)

    Pros

Nice facility, helpful staff, good atmosphere to work within and the campus is really amazing. You really feel like you're within a huge operation. Support staff happy to help.

    Cons

Very few permanent positions available. Disconnect with immediate supervisors, if you can actually find them. While autonomy is nice being told to do something and then having no support or plan B or communication with anyone if something changes left you hanging.

    Advice to Management

More direction and hands on involvement with freelancers. I often felt as though I was in a rudderless boat and lost.

I have been working at NBCUniversal (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Better leadership under Comcast than under GE, but that doesn't say much. Very silo'd work environment... the company's left hand doesn't know what it's right hand is doing.

    Cons

Tons of politics. Get ready to learn how to play political chess with you co-workers and remember to keep your friends close but your enemies closer.

I have been working at NBCUniversal full-time

    Pros

There is a lot of opportunity for entry level people. You are encouraged to learn outside of your designated skillset.

    Cons

The opportunity for advancement is limited. The compensation is on the low end. It is TV so the work/life balance is not good at all. Change is hard to come by.

    Advice to Management

Help foster growth outside of standard boundaries.

    Pros

Having a stable and reliable job that pays okay is a pro for working here and also it is the TV business!

    Cons

Big soulless company doesnt care about their employees so it's hard to really get much done without going through a lot of red tape.

    Advice to Management

pay more attention to your employees and listen to their needs so that you can be more effective at managing them.

    Pros

Union position guarantees a livable wage and job security. Use of cutting edge technology. plenty of live event experience.

    Cons

extreme micromanagement of operation. very little praise for a job well done, plenty of disdain if mistakes are made.

    Advice to Management

listen to advice of subordinates since they run the operation. try not to put budget before production.

I have been working at NBCUniversal as a contractor (More than 10 years)

    Pros

There is a lot of opportunity for growth to a certain level. The commissary isn't so bad either.

    Cons

They don't know how to motivate there employees. They also need to work farther ahead, this way there not waisting so much on last minute creative fire drills.

    Advice to Management

Wake up, be in the moment, think ahead and realize who is actually your vip's.

    Pros

Excellent place to get experience in a Fortune 100 company. Decent pay/benefits package.

    Cons

Depending on department, training/development is almost non- existent. No standard policy/rules for promotions.

    Advice to Management

    Communication and transparency.

I worked at NBCUniversal (Less than a year)

    Pros

Worked for many years as a permalance basis. Was good money and great benefits required even as a freelancer after enough constant work days. They always kept me busy even when one gig was finishing. But that was more because of the scheduler then management.

    Cons

The management was more about the business then the people that worked there. They wouldn't hesitate putting any butt in your seat if they had to. Not a lot of room to raise rates without leaving and coming back.
