Current Employee – been working at NCI Building Systems full-time for more than 7 years

ProsNCI is a great company to work for. I always admire at its enthusiasm in implementing new technology. It allows the company to increase the employee's productivity and to improve the job satisfaction at the same time.

ConsCompany relies heavily on conventional wisdom rather than trying to understand/implent the industry's best practices.

Advice to Senior ManagementThere is still lot of opportunity for the company to use Industry's best practices in many areas like quality, project management. Why always come up with your own customized unique solution when there is a proven best practice methodology?

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

Former Employee – worked at NCI Building Systems as a contractor for more than a year

Pros41K, medical, vision, scholarship but you must stay for 3 years to pay it back.

ConsLack of carrer path program. Most people stay in one same position for life.

Advice to Senior ManagementGet a management or MBA diploma and get prepared to perform management and supervisory functions – such as employee recruiting, labor relations, employee performance monitoring and evaluation, and employing motivation and problem solving techniques.

Houston, TX

Former Employee – worked at NCI Building Systems full-time for less than a year

ProsThey paid well and west Houston location convienent.

ConsNot enough IT staff to cover the company's needs. Too many VPs and President demanding immediate satisfaction at the expense of production. Be prepared to work like a galley slave and pick up others jobs because coworkers are too overworked to perform their full range of duties.

Advice to Senior ManagementYou need more IT staff to cover the various sites. To have one full timer to cover a plant the size of a small college plus three other remote sites along with executive support for a number of VPs borders on both insanity and bad business. To expect a new hire who you failed to convey the full background and breadth of the job to immediately pick up where a senior employee (who caved in under the workload and fled) left off borders on malicious hiring.

Current Employee – been working at NCI Building Systems

ProsGood benefits, nice people to work with. Company has been around a long time and will invest in new technology to try and stay ahead of the competition.

ConsThey hire too many upper management people and lay off middle managment creating high levels of stress for those workers.

Advice to Senior ManagementDon't hire so many Senior Managers. They just create more work for the few mid-level managers that are left after layoffs or replacing mid-level managers with clerical staff.

ProsSales possitions throughout this company are the best jobs in the company. Great pay and commisions with lots of freedom and responsibility.

ConsCompany is currently struggling. Stock is badly diluted with the majority of the company now being owned by a private equity firm. Many job cuts have been made and plants have been closed down.

Advice to Senior ManagementBe more open to strategic change in order to overcome economic down turns in the commercial building market.
