Pros
good wages in comparison with other similar jobs at other companies
different shifts, also weekends, in several teams adding extra income posibility
good location connected well by public transport
modern office with central heat and AC
Cons
promises of yearly salary increases and bonus payment but not even adding up to meeting devaluation of local currancy
no part time work week or flexible work week options for no good reason and not even discussable as many issues, may even be seen as negativity and undermining workers morale
no taxi vouchers for those working late shifts to get home ok
lack of fresh air in the winter as cerculation does not work and the AC doesn't have a chance as the windows need to be open in order to get sufficiant fresh air
Advice to Senior Management
its time to get out of the insecurity complexes and stop using cheap excuses to blow people off and enter into open dialogues not forgetting where they've come from and what they wanted from their employers then
Pros
-Working virtually
-Great training
-Lots of great, knowledgeable employees who are good at what they do
-Very challenging, fast paced, exciting environment
-Many dedicated professionals who strive to satisfy the customer
Cons
Almost constantly short staffed in the field. Customers are sometimes sold ridiculous contracts that almost set outrageous expectations of service. In the field you are constantly expected to meet sometimes impossible metrics given the amount of work and lack of techs. Management is inconsistent and confusing at most times. High stress, long hours and inconsistent scheduling.
Advice to Senior Management
Listen to the people in the field, dealing with the customers. Get some more good techs in the field, then get rid of the ones that are consistently under-preforming. Stop selling contracts we can't meet, or hire more people to meet them. Show the field more positive feedback, and do more to encourage employees to step up, and reward them publicly, instead of constantly whipping us to meet "the numbers".
Pros
It was a great place to work 40 years ago, The difference between management and employees was closer than it is now. Managers did not live thinking their job may go away because of a wim on middle management.
Cons
The demands that are made on CE II are stupid. I worked in an area where you could get called out at midnight and not get home in time to go to work, Sometimes we would just keep working and try to go home early. I had a friend who worked for a utility company and when he would get called out he was off the next day until he was on call again at 5pm. NY and NJ and most other states treat DWT (driving while tired or sleepy) the same as DWI. NCR should address this in their work requirements of CE and other jobs where one is required to miss a nights sleep.
Advice to Senior Management
Let small thing slide and come down on major offenses. Let employees know if they do right or wrong. Don't wait until time comes for raises to shoot someone down.
Pros
i gained a lot of experience in the field of ATM engineering. also learnt form one of the best engineers the field can offer.
Cons
workplace atmosphere was somewhat boring. it was all anout work, work, work. thats not advisable especially for engineers. Also, improper communication of job requirements.
Advice to Senior Management
They should improve on their approach to work and add an extra bit of fun so as to encourage employees to at least interact and show them that there is another world outside there apart from just work.
Pros
I have always liked the challenges they give you and also a nice working environment with plenty of oppurtunity to further ones carreer.
Cons
Sometimes you feel lost in the large organisation. Difficult to get higher executives to sit down and really listen to the needs of the market.
Advice to Senior Management
Take some time to sit down and discuss how the company can make better use of the knowledge and experience of the staff available.
Pros
Great place to work to start out.
Cons
Consumes a lot of personal time and senior management does not really care about the employees that make the company. Several reorganizations over past 2 years.
I really enjoyed working for NCR just 2 years ago, but there have been several changes in direction since then that created a very uncomfortable workplace.
Advice to Senior Management
Get back in touch with the CE, they are the backbone of the company.
Pros
Competitive wages and benefits as well as the opportunity for training and to gain experience in a multitude of business roles. There are superb and experienced mentors to learn from. One of the few companies left that still hasa significant population of long-term experienced talent. Autonomy to work without supervision.
Cons
With regard to WCS, NCR is a company in decline with a constantly changing business model in search of a real profit margin. Price erosion of products and services combined with a shrinking customer base have forced an environment of constant layoff, paycuts, and restructuring. The end result is overworked employees with far too much to complete. As a result, the company is a slave to a few large customers at the expense of the rest. Frontline employees are dissatisfied with the conditions and constantly threaten to unionize. Upper management listens when employees yell union, but quickly turn a deaf ear when the treat is defeated.
Advice to Senior Management
Find a business model and market that actually produces revenue growth and stbility and execute it. Lsten to your employees! If you can't make your employees happy, how can you possibly make your customers happy?
Pros
Good benefits
Decent pay
Company vehicle / fuel
All tools provided
Good schedule if you are not on call
Extra pay if you are on call
Cons
Waking up in the middle of the night and driving 2 hours to a cisco call and getting home just in time to go to work for your normal 8 hour day.
The standards for calls per day and time spent on calls do not match up with how each should be. Repair calls take longer than a PM (preventative maintenance)
Your numbers in outlying areas will not be as good as someone in a bigger city so you are left out of pay raises quite often because someone always has better numbers. If you have up to a 2 hour drive between your service areas you wont get as many calls done as someone in a bigger city that has a 15-20 minute drive between calls.
Advice to Senior Management
Develop a pay scale that is not just based on numbers but also on customer reviews. Let guys run overtime if they fell behind on a bad repair call instead of putting them behind for a week and leave work for the weekend people that will have to put in overtime to catch up anyway.
Pros
good pay, good health care, was a good conpany
Cons
no time for kids, and family
Advice to Senior Management
wake up
Pros
Co-workers are often very down to earth, and are willing to cooperate in solving problems
Cons
The technology is somewhat conservative, but that is expected for supporting over 30-year-old databases
Advice to Senior Management
Should get employees more involved in company-wide issues, instead of giving them only the impression of doing so.
