Advice to Senior Management
Collaborate, partner and listen to the key resources...your staff.
Pros
Great team of people to work with- couldn't ask for better. Everyone is willing to step up and do whatever it takes to get the job done. Pay and benefits are good although no bonuses for years did get very old.
Cons
Worked in Services as an AS3- the 2010 layoffs were devastating and very concerning to say the least (literally 50% of the entire Account Support team was suddently laid off). I was "fortunate" not to be one that was laid off and had the work off another AS3 who was not as fortunate added to my already full plate along with extra work from an AS2 that was laid off. It became an impossible situation within months going from a few accounts to a count in the double digits. NCR: how do you triple an AS3's account load and expect them to deliver a quality product and retain your customer?
Account support is the catch all for customer issues and with all the other layoffs our job was becoming more intense already. I won't have my name associated with very low quality work, especially when I am the one standing in front of the customer each month to give an account of performance. Logistics upper management is always playing games resulting in low quality service to customers- everything is about the dollar bill and no one is really willing to step up for the customer even though the suggestions on how to do that from the AS is plentiful.
I loved working at NCR for all the years up to 2010 when things seemed to fall off a cliff. It was always stressful but always tolerable- I liked being pushed and I liked the high paced environment. After the layoffs and the massive workload increase I tried my best to make it work but in the end, working literally 80 hour+ weeks for months with zero hope of a change is no way to live- it was a very painful decision to quit and it took some time. No one was listening and no one really cared and I did lose hope- I felt stepped on and used. I think Bill Nuti gave Nancy Daniels marching orders on cuts and she executed without pushback to the detriment of the company- very very disapointing.
So many others were exiting when I exited because it was becoming an intolerable workplace- moral was extremely low. It was amazing how after so many good years things just dove into the abyss fairly hard. NCR is profitable and did not have to lay off so many people when the same revenue was there (and in my case was growing). Bill Nuti's compensation increase alone in 2010 could have covered the salaies for those laid off. Very sad. I do believe 2011 will be the year the 2010 decisions cause a crash in customer retention. Customers will start looking for other companies because they are being ignored and that loss of business will just make it worse for NCR. I think it's very ugly I just don't get how upper management can be so irresponsible and rip up the lives of the people who have wholeheartedly supported the company for so many years- people who have gone above and beyond to ensure NCR's sucess and their own.
Advice to Senior Management
Have respect for your employees. Realize there is only so much one person can do. Listen to what employees are telling you. The surveys sent out say employees distrust and are dissatisfied with upper management- change this! This has to change or I fear NCR will continue on a decline that it simply will not be able to pull out of. NCR is using it's name to sustain itself for awhile and save some money- customers will only put up with this for so long and in the end you have a tarnished name and lost customers. Upper management: is it really worth it? You are taking some very dicey risks here that may end very badly for everyone. Respect the customer and do what it right. Of course you have to make money but there is a right and wrong way to do it. Maybe upper management needs to work a little harder in finding ways to retain your loyal employees. Take a page from a company like the Container Store- see how they treat their employees and how this has helped them. This one would have remained loyal to the end- but instead you lost me to your (larger) competition.

Advice to Senior Management
Give changes time to work before you try something else.
Pros
Great customers, cutting edge products, good benefits for industry, flex time off and caring coworkers, does what needs to be done to achieve sales goals
Cons
went too far in 2010 in eliminating Account Support, overworked remaining associates, lost lots of industry knowledge, should have been done with more customer communication and input
Pros
NCR provided a diverse set of opportunities accross multiple industries.
Cons
NCR is lean and work hours are excessive.
Advice to Senior Management
NCR has many valuable employees who would welcome advancement and new opportunities.
As the organization gains momentum upgrading the employee training budget would be an great addition as the organization.
Pros
Very respected company in the IT industry with great tradition of innovation and sales. Makes for very easy connections in the tech space.
Cons
Very slow moving company. Majority of the employees are 20+ years with NCR and hold on to traditional ways of doing business. Needs much more youth to sustain growth and innovation.
Advice to Senior Management
Look outside of tradition ATM & POS industries and create new Lines of Business with new technologies. Bring more youth into the organization to enhance innovation and create a new corporate culture. Fire the Fat!
Pros
Steady reliable paycheck and benefits. Teamwork and customer service gives you a sense of accomplishment. Repair work is always changing so it can keep the job fresh.
Cons
Very poor hours and undefined responsibilities. Review system is based on stats that you cannot control. Internal support with HR, IT and other branches is only thru email. Poor Communication all around.
Advice to Senior Management
In my opinion Senior management is destroying the company. Increase pay and the number of Technicians. This will improve performance to our customers, and as that rises the opportunities for new business will appear. Make this company the one that everyone WANTS to work for and the company that our customers want as well. Also, don't be afraid to cut the dead weight in the field.
