I have been working at NCR full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Depending on your manager, flexibility in schedule. Lots of time off.

    Cons

Managers have the power to keep you from moving to other positions. It's amazing how anything gets done because of bad coordination between departments. The culture varies from department to department and LOB to LOB. It's like several companies in one. Be prepared to work long hours.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Talk to the people doing the daily on the ground work. Decisions are made that don't take the daily workload and problems into account.

I have been working at NCR full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

This company is making a commitment to transforming itself to a software company with is an exciting new adventure. NCR has an appropriate focus on delivery within my organization.

    Cons

Sometimes we try to juggle too many things. I hear 80% is good enough a lot. Would rather see us be 100% good on three top priorities, 60% good on the next 3 priorities, than 80% good on all 6.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Prioritize, plan, execute. Be great at fewer things that drive the greatest business benefit.

I worked at NCR full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    International business
    Cultural exposure
    Large multinational experience

    Cons

    Boring, dry, formal culture
    Poor management
    Long hours
    Disorganized and highly segmented
The workforce here is older, and the buildings are in poor locations far away from the city. There's no great living around the area, so commutes to/from work are terrible for pretty much everyone.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Executives don't even operate out of HQ and have terrible interaction with employees

    Pros

    Above average benefits.
People are easy to work with.
Diversified environment and easy to adapt to.
    Company future is stable.

    Cons

The only Cons I can think of is that the work resource is not sufficient. Other than that, I can't think of anything else.

I have been working at NCR full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Honestly, I can't think of one good thing to say about working for this company. I look forward to the weekends on every Friday.

    Cons

    Benefits are terrible
    Culture and Atmosphere are terrible
No Work Life Balance - Working from home is actually discouraged, and frowned upon
    No support from Upper Management
In meetings you have IT upper management yelling, cursing, and challenging every decision by lower management.
IT is always in crisis mode, and unable to maintain or properly manage budget or yearly project planning - which means employees are often over worked..forced to work on competing tasks that all require 1st priority status, not enough FTE to handle work load, and management attempts to bully and/or blame you for missed deadlines, that were unrealistic from the start.
No sense of "team" in IT across different functional areas, as everyone is concerned with meeting their own personal yearly objectives, instead of working together to meet common goals.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Upper Management should be replaced with new people with fresh ideas.

I have been working at NCR full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Flexible schedule, telecommute, interesting work, international coworkers

    Cons

Very political. Top down management. The "little people" are treated like a number and are not treated with respect by superiors. There are a lot of overpaid middle managers that receive huge bonuses, yet they cut corners in their depts. I can't order a simple software package that will be used daily because the company "can't afford it". The software would cost $40. The director of our dept just received a $200,000 bonus. Hmm. This is the way they treat the workers too. Bonuses and pay increases are few and far between until you become part of the "management tier". This is an old school company that belongs in 1985. The only "new" ideas the company has implemented are flexible work schedules and dress code. This is an alright stopover job and I'm treating it as such. I would not want to spend my career here.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take care of your employees and treat them with respect. I knew that NCR treated its service level employees poorly before I took my position in the admin side of the company. I'v found that the mistreatment of employees is widespread. You make your money because employees come to work and work hard. Without them there is no company. Treat them like they matter. You don't have to pay employees more, just treat them like they are really part of the company and treat them like they matter. You'd be amazed by the results of an engaged workforce.
