Current Employee – been working at NCR full-time for less than a year
Pros – It's been around for over 130 years and is not going to go away. Corporate can be good and bad. Good because there is great job security (unless you do something crazy) and you can expect to be there as long as you want. Pay is good and PTO is very good.
Cons – Don't expect to get noticed. You would have to do something extraordinary (most likely on your own time) to even get on the radar. If you don't like corporate life, you probably won't like all the extra stuff you have to do (endless notes and details on disparate systems) just to do your job.
Advice to Senior Management – Open up to new ideas and invest in refactoring of under performing and badly written software solutions instead of just getting enhancements and bug fixes. Most of these can be eradicated by having a well written code base.

Current Employee – been working at NCR full-time for more than 7 years
Pros – Hourly pay. Long hours. Job security due to the high turnover of customer engineers. Pay not too high to keep you from job hunting
Cons – Bad shifts. poor management. Overworked areas. on call 365 days a year. Poor trainging. lack of employee recognition. no 401k match.
Advice to Senior Management – Get back to basics. get more managers so they can manage their areas.

Former Employee – worked at NCR
Pros – Company aggressively looked to expand and grow in emerging areas... either via acquisition or partnerships.
Cons – As is common with new ventures...not all business ventures panned out.

Current Employee – been working at NCR full-time for more than a year
Pros – Very technical with a supportive team environment
Cons – Middle management does not see the personal time and needs of the employee as important.
Advice to Senior Management – Treat employees with personal needs such as time off for a family member death, birth of a child or other major life event with more supportive options.

Current Employee – been working at NCR full-time for more than 8 years
Pros – NCR is a industry leader and has some of the most innovative solutions. Overall NCR provides good benefits, compensation, and solid teams. NCR has a solid Executive Management Team.
Cons – A weak Sr Management team that is not able to execute the strategies defined by the Executive Management Team.
Sr Management Teams are made up of individuals that came from recent acquisitions of small companies that lack experience and courage of managing a large global workforce.
A weak HR Team with lack of resources.
Company is headed downwards due to loss of some exceptional talent recently.
Advice to Senior Management – Replace Sr Management Team with more experienced and employee focused individuals.

Current Employee – been working at NCR full-time for more than a year
Pros – Has the power of a typical large corporation with regards to benefits, tools, education, and compensation.
Cons – Managerial styles vary widely, too widely. For instance, my manager was too focused on making the numbers look good, not focused on resolving the underlying issues that drive some of our metrics. Other managers take a wholistic approach focused on making sure we have the underlying issues addressed, such as education and experience of technicians, or call management.

Current Employee – been working at NCR full-time for more than 10 years
Pros – Company is attempting to turn itself around with its attitude toward its employees. They are trying to create a campus atmosphere for innovation and growth. Seems to fall a little flat when there are not enough confernce rooms to meet and most meetings seem to be on the phone from a low height cube. Various people have flexible hours and sometimes telecomute from home. There are learning opportunities and smaller perks that are being awarded (and taxed) for recognition awards. If your interest is development then there are some opportunites but you must choose the correct team or you are bogged down with supporting legacy systems or purchased applications from outside vendors.
They offer online learning opportunities, Six sigma certifications, Flexible Schedules and opportunities for telecommuting. Some benefits for daily commutting reimbursement. bonus based on company performance can be good.
Cons – NCR has a Development Center in India with a staff rate of around 30% onshore and 70% offshore. The company seems more willing to bring in outside experts then trust internal people. With the focus on the India Development Center you are left with the feeling that you are more of an expence than what you are worth. The India Development Center is a mix bag of quality.
Benefits use to be good but have slowly been declining. The benefits are only average in comparison to other companies. Healthcare employee management is starting to get intrusive with monitoring if you are taking your "meds" if you happen to be on them. Drug tests to make sure that you truely are a non-smoker and so on.
Salary increases are marginal at best and reviews are by an IT management group that spreads the merit increases around. At most you are lucky to get one or see 1.5% raises unless you can convince management for promotion to a new level.

Current Employee – been working at NCR full-time for more than 3 years
Pros – Pockets of good people and teams.
Decent work/life balance - can work virtual. Some managers are flexible with this.
Cons – Too many chiefs, not enough Indians.
Mentality is work harder, not smarter.
Revolving door of leadership.
Too sales-driven - old-school way of thinking.
Try to do too much as a company - try to build solutions too late in the game.
Not forward-thinking enough to be competitive.
Advice to Senior Management – Smarter, not harder.
Lead. Inspire.
Make NCR a place an employee would be proud to work for.
Don't be condescending to your employees. You hired them for a reason.
You will NOT win without investing in Marketing. It is 2013.
