I have been working at NCS

    Pros

    Many opportunities in govt projects
Many training courses available (though may not always have the budget or time to sign up)

    Cons

It is quite a shock that the company has been existent as a SI for so many years, but there are no established processes and knowledge management content and hence, standards differ very much among similar projects. Though there are training courses available, but they are not made mandatory to some crucial roles like PMs, where many don't even know what are the basic tools or processes in the company.
Cost cutting is strictly observed for the sake of doing it and there are no replacement of headcount even there are resignation cases and only when customers start banging tables and escalate to the sky, then the replacement request will be acceded. There is no investment in building the capabilities nor retention of good staff, but yet management will question why projects are not won.
Internal politics struggle among team in meeting their own agenda and revenue targets, and there is no synergy working among teams to leverage on each other's offerings and strength.
There are no KPIs enforced in performance appraisal and top down goals replicated from management to the staff. However, revenue targets given to the team are usually unachievable and unbelievable.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please step back and relook into the structure of the whole company. The company needs a strong person at the top with the relevant experience, vision and foresight, as well as understanding to drive this company back to the right path.

I worked at NCS full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Some of the colleagues are very nice. The roti prata at the canteen is awesome. Also, there are plenty of people who somehow manage to find time to sleep at A2 and the rec room, so if you want to kun, you can go there.

    Cons

Lots of politicking so work performance doesn't matter. Some departments do not set out KPIs at all for the year, so your performance appraisal totally depends on how much your boss likes you. So in spite of working hard for the company, at the end of the day, it's obvious the 'high performers' are the ones who go out with the boss for breakfast, lunch, coffee, smoke break, dinner!

Also, the English and grammar used in this company is atrocious. When you pick up any brochure at the lobby to read, you have no idea what they're trying to say because it's all a bunch of IT jargon put together and you still don't know what the product is. It's pretty embarrassing especially when you have potential foreign clients.

Please do yourself a favour and try out at an MNC if you want to go into IT. At least they have KPIs and legitimate appraisals.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Seriously look into your performance appraisal system. It's really a joke. Also, don't you know that employees who transfer to another department are always given a very bad performance review by their previous department?

    Pros

    Lots of projects.
Will have work for years since the company indirectly owned by government.
Better Bonus for people with some selected skin color.

    Cons

Working over time is expected always.
All the tough/difficult/low budget projects will be executed with foreigners and they will will be squeezed and thrown after use like toilet papers.
    Racism.
Managers behave like assembly line supervisors. They do not know the difference between assembly line job and software development.
Only people of particular skin types get compensatory off for working on off days.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to replace most of middle level managers, i call them supervisors.

    Pros

Nothing. This is a company that should go die long time ago if not for government contract. Benefits are not even good on paper. Seriously... do a serious thinking if you find this company is attractive.

    Cons

    Salary is not competitive.
Your boss only know about need to hit KPI.
Keep on telling you company need to cut cost.
    Totally no work-life balance.
1 people need to handle 2 to 3 people job scope.
    Poor benefits.
Help is never found in the middle and upper management, instead, you will find a lot of fingers pointing at you for not meeting timeline.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

mid-level managers are stupid. back stab employees. if he see you no happy, he will find a way transfer you outside or make you leave. never help only blame. since you want to cut cost.
cut down 1 of your manager instead of having 2 or more assistance manager to save more.
Stop wasting your money to decorate the building. people already knowing this company are doing IMAGE ONLY.

    Pros

    Can't think of any pros

If u want a tiring and hectic job where nobody appreciates you, this is the place to be

    Cons

Higher management doesn't listen to feedback from the ground, living in their own ivory towers

Depending on your project, your workplace could be bloody far from home, appeals for change of location fall on deaf ears

Full of people who don't seem to know their stuff.

My advice to anyone who wants to work for ncs, STAY AWAY!!!!!

I have been working at NCS full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Stable sales for products that can sell
    - best prata in b6
    - good support from applications and Managed service team

    Cons

    - Sales PO snatched by fellow colleagues who gets favour of bosses via lip service.
    - lots of backstabbing and unfair appraisals
    - boss only listen to one side of story due to favoritism
    - incompetent bosses who flows all work down directly to staffs and make staffs come back on several weekends for meetings
    - unfulfilled promises, unrealistic sales target which will change at the last min to ensure you can't hit sales
    - get scrutinized if u managed to achieve sales target
    - unfair treatment for mothers who are going for maternity. Multiple threats and discrimination.
    - sales get stolen by coverers whom are supposed to cover u especially when u r on leave
    - forced to share pipelines and opportunities with the team for visibility
    - no protection from bosses for forecast shared
    - no career prospect
    - poor time management from bosses. Always late for meetings, doesn't respect our timing

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop being a slave driver. We had already worked long hours during weekdays. Our weekends, MC and leaves are meant for us to spend time with family. Pls also be fair to maternity and working mothers. Don't take this opportunity to short change them. I'm sure U don't wish your own wives and daughters to b mistreated as well. Choose your leaders wisely instead of promoting the same person every year for the sake of promoting. It's detrimental to the mental state and physically exhausting to deal with people who are childish and unprofessional in their actions and words. Some doesn't even know how to behave like a leader. AND, u r protecting such people. Reflect your actions before more competent ppl are being driven away by yourself.

Nice and friendly colleagues who are always out there to help. Nice work life balance and most of the time, you get to knock off on time.

    Cons

Could not see the career progression and vision of the team. And the working environment is not very conducive. Don't have a good leader and I don't feel very involved in projects.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I understand that the management has their ways and reasons of making certain decisions. There is no one decision that will fit to all employees here. So I will accept it.
