    Pros

    Gain some entry level experience into the gaming industry. You get to work on some great products...not ones that were created by your own offices but those created by the Korean office.

    Cons

    Our Christmas bonus one year was a copy of the game we'd worked on. Just 1.
    Management of the Seattle office was abysmal. Dealt with an extremely nepotistic manager who wouldn't promote anyone until they'd all left and he could promote his relative. Not that she was bad, just that she didn't have the experience that others did until they all left.
    Pay was not competitive.
    NCsoft West was a total mess run by incompetence and apathy.

    Advice to Management

    You don't need to be wasting your money on a downtown Seattle office. Most of those employees are useless...you could probably hire a few English fluent folk out of HQ and do an equivalent job.

    Pros

    They provide good benefits and progressive policies like offering health coverage for domestic partners. They also allow individual teams to have a lot of autonomy, which is risky but great if you're successful in delivering a good product.

    Cons

    Like any game company, you are vulnerable to team-wide layoffs if you're a developer.

    Pros

    The Seattle facility is in a good location.
    Owns studios, like ArenaNet, that are actually making good games.

    Cons

    Unclear direction from management.
    Management downsizes everyone except for people that are actually causing problems.
    People that are in charge of the Western game ports don't understand the market; they expect that what worked in Korea will work here.

    Advice to Management

    Games released in the West should have people familiar with the West in charge, instead of hoping that what worked in Korea will work here. Letting go of people that are good at their job only to keep people that are openly hostile and antagonistic is a recipe for disaster.

    Pros

    Great ideas, IP's and possibilities. Wonderful global infrastructure.

    Cons

    Top level executive management in Korea does not understand western markets no cultural differences in employment expectations.

    Advice to Management

    Take a close look at how much budget you set forth for adapting your games to the western markets, you're currently under. Let those with an understanding of the western markets and employments lead those satellite divisions.

    Pros

    Met some really great people there.

    Cons

    Korean culture shoved down your throat. NCsoft wasn't ready to go multinational as they fully expect to graft their Korean culture onto their U.S. workforce.

    Long hours; hectic schedule. Seems that the company couldn't plan more than 30 days in advance. Everything is a "fire"

    Lowball pay; management's goal is to pay as little as possible. Their justification is the "cool factor" of working for a game company offsets the lower pay.

    Advice to Management

    Seoul, hire a cultural consulting firm and heed their guidance. US, the people needed to run an MMO are worth more than you are paying them.

    Pros

    Good location if you like downtown Seattle. There were some good people that were here before they wised up and left.

    Cons

    Very corporate and tightly controlled by Korean HQ. "Keep your head down" mentality which discouraged passionate employees. This place also has a tendency to waste a lot of good talent.

    Advice to Management

    Stop creating a hostile environment for those that want to bring positive change. Hire better management that are from the game industry. Stop wasting good talent and listen to what people have to say. Take heed of the reviews posted on here.

    Flexible hours, great team great work environment.

    The commute could be shorter!

    Almost free lunches. Some of the community.

    Immediate ''fire you now'' reaction. An itchy finger to redlight certain games that are not making the cut and currently that involves all Western influenced MMOs. I can tell you that even with knowledge of the business, finances, NDA disclosures, and how HQ runs it's still difficult to maintain an open connection with both my side and employees and theirs. Trying to get through to someone in Korea is like tapping a pencil on a manhole in New York during rush hour. You won't catch anyone's attention, and that's just the way it always has been. Honestly, being fluent in Korean doesn't much either as they detest foreigners with knowledge of their ''native'' tongue. Ridiculing our Office more than aiming to help.

    For anyone who is interested all I can say is don't be. Move on to a Western owned and Western run Company.

    NDA: NCSoft is going to be insourcing more so than outsourcing. You can expect the full shutdown of all NCSoft Western-Run/European Run Offices with in the next two years.

    Advice to Management

    After your meltdown please do not attempt to re-open to the United States. Stay in Korea. Thanks.

    Pros

    If you're good at what you do, you'll be a rockstar, even if you work less than 40 hours a week.

    Competitive salaries for minimal work

    Cons

    Leadership in Korea does not trust America or Europe to make their own decisions, and as a result, the decisions made reflect what Korea leadership wants to see, and not what needs to happen for the benefit of players, or the business.

    There is no clear career path, because the company is restructured every other year.

    Having a good boss at NCsoft is like winning the lottery. Unfortunately, even if you win, your awesome boss will wise up or get laid off during your employment.

    The only culture that exists, is what employees make for themselves; however, with so much turnover, office culture changes frequently, and is often more of an "inner-circle" kind of experience.

    Benefits are not great. They are bare bones, and change a lot.

    When I was working there, I had to pay hundreds of dollars per month for my own parking spot

    Truly creative people are not treated well at NCsoft.

    Advice to Management

    To leadership in Korea:

    Get your hands out of the darn cookie jar and EMPOWER your employees. You've guaranteed the failure North America and Europe operations because of your bureaucratic, and unnecessary approach to a global business. What works in Korea, doesn't mean it will in other territories. Look at Riot Games for god sake. They empower their Korean HQ to make their own decisions, and they are frequently different than the ones made in America. While they flourish in multiple territories, you're only truly successful in Korea, and even there, you haven't lived up to your potential in years.

    Pros

    Other than it being a video game company. None really

    Cons

    Management! The US operations is always afraid of what HQ wants, so they make rash hiring decisions, especially bringing deadbeat directors that have been let go from other electronic studios.

    Advice to Management

    Stop trying to constantly change or micromanage. If you want to do it the HQ way then bring over HQ management. Bringing in washout from other electronic studios makes it much worse.
