    Pros

Many very dedicated employees who work hard to help the company succeed.
The work environment is friendly. In general, colleagues are helpful and supportive.

    Cons

There was a frequent churn at top-management level as executives rotate from/to Japan within a few years.
The company's strategy and operations are largely dictated from Japan.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    More locally-driven business direction

    Pros

    Excellent health insurance, good camraraderie

    Cons

H.R. is totally clueless and useless. They provide no services (everything is outsourced to a 3rd party company), and seem to live in a dreamworld. Constant bombardment of requests to take CYA harassment and ethics classes. Merit review system is a joke and only serves as a lead weight around employee's necks. Does anybody care if any work gets done?

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get H.R. on board and pulling the rope in the same direction with the rest of the company.

    Pros

I had a great relationship with my manager who gave us full autonomy over our work, but was there when we needed access to resources. I was able to work 4 out of 5 days out of the office (a combination of home and client sites). Benefits package was solid. And there were always opportunities to keep learning.

    Cons

During my time there, there were two waves of layoffs, which caused some folks to feel uneasy. NEC has a wide range of products and services they were trying to sell, which caused the teams to become siloed. Not enough sharing of best practices (lack of process and tools). Not so much a problem if you are able to work independently and are a self-starter.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on a few things well. Fewer products, fewer offerings. Create a strong unique value proposition—not, “oh by the way, yes, we do that also.”

    Pros

The non-telephony business had been doing very well until 2012 but direction changes have had a significant impact.

    Cons

The company seems to be willing to throw away significant opportunities in emerging IT markets to focus more on their core 'big iron' PBXs.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you want to separate the company into "Phone" and "Non Phone", go ahead! If you want to keep one cohesive company, that's great! But please pick one or the other and stick with it for awhile!

    Pros

    Extraordinary benefits and comp package
    Flexible Work Schedule
"It takes a village" Mentality among most

    Cons

    No upward path
Backwards protective Japanese influence on Domestic Management
Youthful exuberance is almost considered a negative trait among the aging management teams

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider the possibility that 30'somethings have an enormous potential given they've been groomed, acclimated and in many cases, drove the innovation you now market, sell, and deploy. Develop and Define a differentiator, or be satisfied with just being another VAR. Otherwise, quit trying to pick which one. The constant identity crisis is unflattering, and kills morale.
