    Pros

For software developers, be prepared to do lot of documentation. They created good documents on existing system. That helped me quickly learn about the system. Overall, it was a good experience.

I worked at NEC Corporation of America

    Pros

Large company with many opportunities and interesting technologies to explore. Easy to become involved in projects.

    Cons

They have a re-org every 6 months to continue improving, but sometimes those changes do not make sense. For example, they cut the sales team for my group and a year later, we had no leads and the department had to be shut down. Does not seem like a good management decision.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire great managers who have good US experience.

I worked at NEC Corporation of America

    Pros

Very smart employees - they have some very good engineers who are dedicated to their customers
    Good Benefit packages

    Cons

People do not want to work together. Most of the people at NEC have been there forever and do not want to change. They like to keep everything to themselves as they are afraid of change and afraid of loosing their job.

Does not give cost of living increases

management only does what is best for them

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

appreicate what your employees do. Move old employees into new roles, create career development paths. mentor employees

I worked at NEC Corporation of America

    Pros

Friendly atmosphere, dedicated employees, great benefits, good facility.

    Cons

Japanese management turnover, little 'skin in the game' before rotated out. Consistent direction and marketing vision needed.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Establish brand identity for NEC in the U.S. Separate Cisco sales channel under another name...to confusing to be selling a competitor on one hand while promoting NEC on the other. Support the Channel with serious marketing dollars nationally. Bring NEC innovation from Japan and establish reputation for great technology in North America.

Former Employee - Account Manager in Albany, NY
Former Employee - Account Manager in Albany, NY

I worked at NEC Corporation of America

    Pros

Small company - access to management -decisions can be made quickly. NEC is a mature company, and needs to quickly transform if it is to survive growth in the 21st Century. There are many smart, capable and aggressive customer-facing people; some talented engineers, and fair managers.

    Cons

some disadvantages of a small company - limited critical mass of colleagues in a geographical area to collaborate with..... some disadvantages of a large company --- convoluted order management processes; limited alignment between sales and delivery; unclear direction from senior management resulting in confusion over what products and offerings to sell.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Ensure the "packaged" solutions and offerings (eg for Higher Ed or Health) are adequately covered by trained and knowledgeable (pre- and post-sales) engineers who know how to design, install and support the solutions critical to NECAM's success.

    Pros

Great quality products, good benefits and great place to be if you don't want to make decisions.

    Cons

Continue to be poorly managed, no leadership, upper management is not willing to take any risks, loaded with politicians looking to retired at NEC.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you really care about the company, hire new talent and fired the old politicians. They are sinking the company in deeper waters.
