Unique place to develop one's career in a dynamic way

    Finance (Current Employee)
    San Jose, CA

ProsNetgear is a unique place where you can develop your career in a dynamic fashion that fits with your individual interests. Lots of opportunity to work across department lines and take on new roles/responsibilities. Definitely a place where you can learn a lot.

Any employee can have a large impact on the organization, despite it being a global company. This makes for a satisfying work experience.

Salaries are competitive or better than average. Performance is rewarded.

ConsEmployees need to be able to manage themselves (not for everyone).

Advice to Senior ManagementUpper management is pretty solid. The organization is "flat", so upper management tends to be very visible. I've found them to be very approachable. I'd encourage them to maintain this as the company grows.

    Great place to work!

Senior Engineering Product Manager (Former Employee)
    San Jose, CA

    ProsManagement
    Great Leadership
    Compensation
    Team / culture / people
    Ownership of products/projects
    Exposure and opportunity for advancement
    Good work / life balance

ConsIf I had to say one, it would be some employees take a while to adapt to an environment where you take ownership of an entire product or project and they are used to compartmentalized structure, only work in a specific area over and over again. At Netgear, you will find you exposure broadened and if your not ready for that, it could be too much. However, the management and leadership is prepared to equip the team for success and the supporting cast is designed to ensure success, support and stability.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep up the good work!

Highly Ethical Company that Rewards its Employees

    Vice President (Current Employee)
    San Jose, CA

ProsNETGEAR has very little bureaucracy and gives me ownership for my job and my function. No micromanagement and very good, clear direction and communication from the CEO. They promote from within and have a good bonus plan. I have been able to promote several people and reward great performers. I feel very appreciated.

ConsThey run lean, so if you are not the type that wants to work hard, this is not the place for you.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep on communicating - the more the better

Growing company with growing pains but where you can grow too

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsSmall company feel in an established, financially secure small company growing to mid-cap
    Good team spirit
    Good benefits package
Lots of opportunity to stand out, and make a difference
Few tiers of hierarchy (5 or 6 roles top to bottom in most parts of the company)
    Positive culture and values
Great place to learn about the industry, as you have to wear many hats
    The people

ConsHigh workload (ok, so where isnt these days)
Some bureaucracy starting to creep in as it scales
Commission structure not what it used to be so motivation in sales is low
Lack of budget for fun team events or meetings outside of HQ (Sure, its nice to be profitable, but its also nice to have dinner with your team mates occasionally)

Advice to Senior ManagementNeed to get the sales force fired up again if you want to see growth. Walking around the sales office, everyone seems to accept its not the place to work for sales if you want to earn. Many top performers have left and a lot of the remainder are looking. The highest paid people in any sucessful company should be the sales team, let some actually do it and make a positive example of them

Good growth potential for a fast-moving company

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsNetgear provides its employees an opportunity to grow within. Your contribution is recognized by Senior Management. The culture provides a small company atmosphere where employees usually do more with less, but with expanded job scope and responsibilities.

ConsEmployees at Netgear are usually very busy, so life, work balance can be affected. Departments are pretty lean, so again, doing more with less.

Advice to Senior ManagementAs you can see by company's performance, company's growth has been great. Need to continue investing on people (hiring) and resources to align company growth.

My experience has been great - the executive team has been very supportive and other employees work well together.

    Director (Current Employee)
    San Jose, CA

ProsManagement is supportive of new initiatives
Company is growing quickly - creating lots of opportunity for career growth
Stable - record revenues 3 quarters in a row - during a recession!
Good team that works well together and is very supportive across different functions
    Good balance of work/life
It seems like some of the reviews here on the site were written before some major restructuring that occurred earlier this year. Some of those problems have been fixed since - including removing some of the problem managers.

ConsCommunications between Business Units needs improvement.
Rank and File employees can be resistive to change, especially if it impacts them directly.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep focusing on building the business in new areas.
Continue to focus on improving employee relations and building a supportive environment for employees.
