    Pros

Mixture of employees, some new and some old employees. Some decent people to work with.

    Cons

No career progression, very little work to do. No variation of tasks and not much in the way of job security. This is in the engineering department, IT department based in Leeds seems to have better prospects.

    Advice to Management

Better cross function of tasks. Use the employees that are available to complete tasks, train long standing employees and get them to train new staff. More productive work force.

  2. Helpful (1)

    Glass ceiling.

    Pros

    Friendly atmosphere with good staff

    Cons

Poor structure and approach to rewarding loyal staff members

    Advice to Management

Reward loyalty, look for internal promotion before going external or using IT contractors.

    Pros

Knowledgeable Staff; Great working atmosphere; Family owned business; Green/sustainable policies; Great training opportunities

    Cons

Upper management too detached from the staff at entry and middle level roles; limited career opportunities (due to a HR department which frequently stunts the growth and developments of other company divisions); Poor facilities at some office sites.

    Advice to Management

Make it easier for those who impress their management to actually rise through the ranks and not have to look elsewhere. Streamline HR processes as everything seems to take a very long time to sort. Take on more staff where needed as using contractors and agencies is false economy.

    Pros

Technically very astute; good team environment

    Cons

Age seems to govern promotion; not really a meritocracy; 60's contracting attitude

    Advice to Management

Promote your stars; dont fear upsetting the apple cart.

    Pros

Family owned business which re-invests its profits back into the business. The site based teams are very dedicated and excellent at their jobs.

    Cons

    - A thriving blame culture
    - Racist managers
    - Very little coaching or development opportunities

    Advice to Management

Try to get out on site more and speak to your employees who are actually delivering projects.

    Pros

Normal workers are some of the most genuine and helpfull people you could meet

    Cons

The Upper Management do not have a clue what they are doing.

    Advice to Management

You really do need to look after your staff and deliver on promises. Upper Management and other areas of the business such as HR and shared services are seriously corrupt

    Pros

Good working conditions good holidays, personal participation with directors. Excellent working environment - altogether, and excellent company to work for.

    Cons

Long working hours, and a lot of week-end working - sometimes course members could be unco-operative

    Advice to Management

Just do as good a job as you are able to - and learn to mix with all stratus of employees
