    Pros

    Pay is good for management. Hours are flexible with ability to do some work from home. My co-workers were awesome and so were most of the staff I supervised.

    Cons

    Pay for DSPs is horrible and raises are non-existent. Not much opportunity for advancement. When DSPs call off and coverage can't be found, then I had to go in and work (my boss was not helpful when I ran into this problem, which was often). Turn over rate for DSP is high so we had to do interviews almost every month. Being on-call means you have no life outside of work because you get phone calls ALL the time. Company (or maybe just my boss) was too focused on doing disciplinary actions.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Alternate the on-call on weekdays as well as weekends. Focus on coaching and improving staff instead of disciplining. Regular raises will improve turn-over rate.

    Pros

    meet people from various backgrounds
    inherent work / job satisfaction - for the people, not for the pay or management

    Cons

    Contrary to popular belief - doctors in the NHS are poorly paid. If the same doctors worked elsewhere they would be paid more - USA / Australia / Germany are examples.

    The work is getting harder but support from management is getting lesser / and so is the pay. There is no forward thinking, only cutting costs - but sweling the ranks of hapless middle managers who tick boxes. Money down the drain.

    Stop the box ticking. If the NHS was owned by shareholders it would have been consigned to history a long time ago. We do not live in police or communist state. Big Brother - time for you to take note.

    Pros

    I have been lucky that I have managed to tailor my job to suit myself and my family needs. This is by working part-time and not having to work weekends and bank holidays.

    Cons

    It has been very difficult to get those in charge to agree with my change s in working conditions.

    Great Colleagues.
    Good compensation.
    Rewarding nature of job, unique experiences which others will never have. Develop specialist knowledge and kills which are valued throughout society.

    Cons

    Short staffed.
    Lack of senior support.
    Lack of emphasis on training of junior staff.
    Real lack of organisation. For example, shift rotas are usually one big ess.
