I have been working at NICE Systems full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

As a global company, there is opportunity to learn a lot about international business. It is a solid company with interesting product offerings. There is also great peer support.

    Cons

Lack of internal processes and controls. The environment as a whole is extremely reactive, with almost no proactive measures. Head count is a constant struggle, and positions are not being filled as people leave. Departments are very siloed, with a lot of finger pointing and inability to work cohesively. "Stressful environment" is an understatement, and employees are pushed beyond capacity. Leadership is very centralized, with no real empowerment to make decisions without CEO/CFO approvals. Work-life balance is mentioned, but the reality is that if you don't work evenings and weekends, it's next to impossible to keep up with demands during the work day. Mention of stress to management is viewed as being negative. There is pressure to abide by a vague global policy on day to day activities, yet exceptions to policy are the norm as people constantly escalate issues to get what they want. It's an overall exhausting environment, and peer support is what keeps most people there. Bonuses are paltry, and merit raises are less than 3%.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Decentralize the organization. Get updated systems in place and establish well-defined processes and procedures.

Current Employee - Support Engineer in Denver, CO
Current Employee - Support Engineer in Denver, CO

I have been working at NICE Systems full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

    The pay is decent.
If you're good at your job, you'll never have to worry about losing it. You'll never be furloughed or laid off. Promotion opportunity is available fairly often.
Decent location in South Denver, north Tech Center

    Cons

Middle management has a serious problem of a revolving door in the Denver call center. If you're a regular engineer, you can honestly expect to have a new boss every 8 months or so. Dealing with that whole learning curve/proving one's self process is often more exhausting than the job itself.
Policies change from week to week, which makes the company feel like its in its infancy, and not the established global company it is.
Middle management seems to always consist of a promoted engineer with no leadership or personal skills, or someone that DOES have call center leadership experience, but knows nothing of the product and never takes the time to learn. It's almost enough to make you laugh seeing how often this seems to repeat over the years.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    1. Denver has a yes-man running the show in support, and what's needed is a man (or woman) who will listen to the needs of the people under him/her, and then force the upper executives to listen to those needs and deliver..
    2. Before implementing new policies only to cancel or revise them 2 weeks later, ask your people about it ahead of time. Get the feedback of the people who actually work with the customers every day.

I worked at NICE Systems full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Company has expanded it's product offerings through R&D and acquisition, so there is a LOT of opportunity to sell and build deep relationships with customers. In general, the people are nice and I was treated very well. There were opportunities to advance, but it's not a rocket ship.

    Cons

Problems it is solving and products are so complex that customer satisfaction is a challenge. There are too many b.s. meetings with too many B & C players. The company could use technology (like Salesforce.com) to streamline ops and remove bureaucracy - too many manual status reports.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Use technology to manage the business and remove admin work so employees can focus on core responsibilities.

I worked at NICE Systems full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

    - Competitive Salary/Benefits
    - Lots of industry knowledge in the company
    - Attempting to implement Agile Development Methodology
    - Office space that promotes collaboration

    Cons

    Where do I start...
    - Poor senior leadership in engineering
    - Lots of turnover at the senior management level over the past two years
    - High developer turnover
    - Product stability is poor, underlying technology is aging
    - Not enough straight talk about what the problems are and how to solve them
    - Frequent spending "freezes" to hedge bets on revenue performance
    - IT support is poor across all offices
    - Low overall morale
    - All major decisions must go through Israel and not enough visibility in Israel about what happens stateside
    - Ridiculous "normalization" of performance ratings

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep up the good work if you are content with the results. Otherwise, start over.

I worked at NICE Systems full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Good benefits, but pay is not great

    Cons

Sr management is horrible--if you're not Israeli, you don't matter.
Product is half baked and impossible to support
Worst culture I have ever witnessed--they work the employees 24/7 with no regards for personal health/sanity and no thanks whatsover. They just want more, more more.

I worked at NICE Systems full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Good Benefits. Immediate team members "get it" and want to help and provide value to shareholders and customers. Policies, procedures, and inconsistent management keep success from happening.

    Cons

    Senior Mgmt does not support
Americas organization and Israel are very much silo'd which makes day to day operations and support of the customer extremely challenging and a constant struggle. Little gets done without management escalation. No empowerment of employees. Be careful - one minute you're valued and the next you're not.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Appreciate your Employees and the work and accomplishments expended over the long term - Meaning look at the holistic picture of the value that each employee brings to the organization.

High pay scale for the experience you bring and the willingness to work hard.

    Cons

Customer Service Manager's stab you in the back. "Advocates" for the customer at the expense of company cohesiveness (all for customer kudos and a magnum of liquor at Christmas)
