    Pros

The old Philips Semiconductors was a great company. NXP, after the buyout, has (still) some of that great stuff: Technologies, People. There are some great products under development. The support that can be had from the Central organizations is great.

    Cons

If your not in Eindhoven the big downside is that the risk of being 'rightsized' is high. In particular in the USA. It seems NXP is not willing to invest in the USA.
The way NXP is going now, it will not survive. Too much debt, no 'killer' project, too much direction changes, and far too much reorganizations in short succession.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Decide, decide, decide. NXP is not (should not be) a United Nations where Management "Teams" say one thing, and each individual mamber then executes something different in their Units.

  2.

Company at the end of a transition from large relaxed European corporate to PE owned to Publicly traded.

Former Employee - Engineering Manager in San Jose, CA

    Pros

    - Technologically deep
    - Getting to be a strong business oriented culture - thanks to PE ownership
    - Focusing on markets which fit the european mindset now
    - Good people orientation (till 2010 - not sure now)
    - Good work life balance (till 2010 - not sure now)

    Cons

    - Europe centric decision making, lots of power point paper tigers
    - PE ownership has destroyed a lot of the old culture and values of the company
    - Any cuts always get made in USA first and Europe second
    - PEs constantly meddle at corporate HQ with new ideas and initiatives leading to lots of overload

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Think less about returns to PE and more about long term future of the company and its people

Former Employee - Director  in  San Jose, CA
Former Employee - Director in San Jose, CA

    Pros

salary and health benefits, which are not a long-term prospect for anyone based in the US

    Cons

blind preservation for anything Eindhoven. totally old school "european battleship" that is unable to understand marketing, innovation and risk taking with emerging technologies and products. endless loop discussions unless you blindly follow the mandates from unqualified managers in Eindhoven.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look outside the company for innovative managers and move HQ out of Eindhoven to dislodge the entrenched. good luck with that considering european employment laws.
