I worked at Nanyang Technological University as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

    Decent work life balance
    Encouraging co-workers

    Cons

    Relatively inaccessible work place
Inadequate equipment to do job competently
    Superiors biased against lifestyle
Superiors behind time on knowledge and jargon to do with modern technology and software
Pay bonuses awarded according to length of employment as opposed to performance
    Inconsistent deadlines and unrealistic KPIs

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Directors and Assistant directors need to be up to date on technology and software to allow a more conducive work environment as opposed to superiors demanding the impossible of their associates.

Deadlines and KPIs need to be taken into account/ relative to the number of employees working in a single department.

+ Interesting work place in a revamped heritage building
+ Colleagues are fabulous people to meet and work with, small offices allow you to interact

+ Salary for mid to low-level employees is pretty mediocre
    + Mundane workload

I have been working at Nanyang Technological University full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The renumeration is competitive and the environment is vibrant, it's a fast rising university and the funding success rate is rather decent. However, the quality of training/ work-environment is very much dependent on the specific lab or department you work with - or should I say people. Some people take a laissez-faire attitude to work, some others take a more driven attitude to work.

    Cons

Increasing red tape is not good for research. Regardless, quite a bit of the emphasis is on publishing, which does not always encourage scientific inquiry. Has a philosophy that best teachers are also best researchers - just means that PIs get extra stressed and that translates to the staff too, everyone suffers.

    1. Research Fellow has a flexible working time. But you need to accomplish the goals given by your employers.
    2. The supervisors in NTU are very famous and young. They have strong motivation to contribute the hot topics in research areas.

    1. The salary in NTU is not high comparing to other universities in Singaproe.
    2. The bonus is also not attractive for employees, just only 1-2 months per year.
