    I worked at Napster

    Pros

I worked at Napster more than four years, worked with nice and smart people. I liked flexible working hours. It's cool to deliver streaming music.

    Cons

It is difficult to gain customers, compensation is not ideal. It is sad to see Napster is gone. Bad feeling seeing people start leaving.

    I worked at Napster

    Pros

    Great people.
    Fun product to work with.
    Interesting and challenging domain.

    Cons

Clueless, vision-less and incompetent upper leadership.
    Crappy office building.
    No money spent on employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Understand that people is the greatest asset and realize that the success of a company based on knowledge workers is hinged on creating a collaborative environment where people are motivated to be more than just average.
Never lead another company this way again!

I have been working at Napster

    Pros

    Cool folks
Decent perks (Best Buy discount, health insurance, various subsidies)
All the music you can stand

    Cons

No leadership from the highest levels
Too much inter-team bickering fighting over a failed business model with no vision for the future
From how Napster was handled, it's no surprise Best Buy is struggling with its primary business.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Riding on the coattails of smaller, less successful brands is never the answer. Once upon a time, Napster was the hip, cool, happening, EXCITING company everyone was gunning for, what happened to all of that?

I have been working at Napster

    Pros

Great product and great people. A lot of potential for the product, despite the space being very confused and cluttered.

    Cons

Leadership is terrible. No vision, no direction, no communication. It would be a very different place to work if the theoretical "c-suite" was replaced.

    Pros

Cool people, free music, long hours though.

    Cons

IT dept. treated like second classere because we weren't cool music guys. Salary was way low, and they took advantage of some people. Brand has pretty low recognition.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    I worked at Napster

    Pros

Free music subscription comes with the job and a budget for going to concerts and music shows. So if you like music there's a little bit of a perk there. Also you can freely play music all day long at work- no one will tell you to turn your music off!

    Cons

The management is not very good. They are always changing the direction of the company and all roads seem to lead to a dead end.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Find a way to get the stock price up. It's been going down, down, down for way too long (forever?)

    I worked at Napster

    Pros

Fairly low stress environment and easy work hours. Benefits are comparable with other tech companies. Best Buy employee discount makes shopping fun

    Cons

Company does not seem to have a well defined strategy for how to remain competitive. Two classes of employees, the ones that have been there since the beginning (the lifers) and new hires who stay for a year or two and then move on. Technology is old and company moves slowly. Executive management is not impressive.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - Start leading instead of letting the teams battle it out
    - Communicate, share your vision (if you have one) and make teams work towards the same goals
    - Do the jobs you were hired to do (lead the company) instead of hiding out in your offices
