Former Employee – worked at Nascar full-time for more than 7 years
Pros – NASCAR is a unique environment that will definetly grow your career. You will have the opportunity to be exposed to situations that are extremely unique. The company has really made positive changes in the last few years to increase retention and promote a work/life balance.Car program is very nice.
Cons – You're going to travel unless you're at the coordinator level in a support department role like, risk, legal, or finanace. Some days you'll need a very thick skin. Pay isn't great unless you've been there a while.
Advice to Senior Management – Make sure lower level people aren't getting burned out and under compensated.
Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

Current Employee – been working at Nascar full-time for more than 10 years
Pros – If you are a fan of the sport then you may find this company interesting. Some positions pay well but be prepared to always put the company before anything else.
Cons – Very fragmented management, individual departments are not treated the same. Since this is run by a family member, there is a group of people that do very well. The rest of the employees are treated as assets that can easily be replaced. Most employees have very little chance to advance beyond their current position. The statement heard repeatedly is “you have to do more with less” except for the inside group. An aggressive management group that does not work together but rather try and compete to be noticed. They like to use the phrase “we are a family” which was true 10 years ago, current management has killed that culture.
Advice to Senior Management – Look back at how you ran the company 10-15 years ago and try to bring back some of that family culture that made NASCAR a great place to work.

Former Employee – worked at Nascar full-time for more than 7 years
Pros – Senior leadership is great. The company has really listened to its employess and made changes to increase retention. Leadership creates an open environment that makes it easy to communicate issues and get quick solutions and direction.
Cons – It's a traveling business, so there's a high probability you will have to travel. Pay isn't so great for new low and middle managers. You have to pay your dues to get raises. It's hard to maintain a family life with the schedule.
Advice to Senior Management – Make sure your low level coordinators and managers are not getting burned out with travel.

Former Employee – worked at Nascar as an intern for less than a year
Pros – Managers care about employees, great place to be an intern and learn about sport, all around great co-workers.
Cons – Diversity department needs to improve, seem very power hungry towards diversity interns, yet don't do much for interns or sport overall.
Advice to Senior Management – Evaluate the director in charge and manger of diversity department. It is a great department with a great mission but needs much better leadership

Former Employee – worked at Nascar
Pros – Despite the problems in structure and culture, the motorsports industry is very interesting the work for. It is not often that you walk through your office and you run into Richard Petty in the hallway and have to point him to the restroom. Travel to the tracks is fun (in the beginning) and the live environment makes the job challenging.
Cons – Complete incompetence of middle management. If you are not a director or higher (or a close friend of one) you are not worth squat, your opinion does not matter and your skills are, by default, insignificant. I have worked with some very smart people in non-management positions and all share the same view. Cronyism is rampant within the company, leading to some very unqualified people in fairly powerful positions.
Advice to Senior Management – Keep close tabs on your middle management layer and keep in contact with all 'regular' employees and not just the chosen few. Do not exclusively hire just MBA's for all management positions, but make sure they have the additional skillset and background required to be able to understand the department they have to manage.

Former Employee – worked at Nascar
Pros – Meeting all the drivers and the respect you get from fans. It is also great to work in an environment where you are surrounded by things that you love, in my case, NASCAR. You also have the opportunity to travle all over the United States and see places that you may not have other wise seen.
Cons – There are a lot of downsides to working within NASCAR. You travel all the time and never get to see your family. They expect y ou to put work first and family last. It is great pay but really, really long hours. There are also al ot of big, big egos to deal with.
Advice to Senior Management – Think about your employees as individuals rather than just numbers.

Former Employee – worked at Nascar
Pros – For the first few years very good place to work. Time off if needed. Work hours were good, with some overtime.
Cons – Departmental leadership was very poor, was told more than once that the company had a stack of resumes for my position and I could be replaced if I didnt like it.
Advice to Senior Management – Stay in touch with workers. Remember who does the work to make the money for you. Have a little more respect for all employees
