I have been working at National Aluminium as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Good, interesting work for all branches of engineering. The hierarchy is efficient and the roles and responsibilities are divided sensibly. Provides a good work-life balance as the timings are strict and make sense for a healthy life style. The benefits are good too. And being an industry of the public (government) sector has its perks too.

    Cons

The working network is too tightly knit to allow enough improvement opportunities to interns. But would provide great learning opportunities to employees and workers.

I have been working at National Aluminium full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Largest captive bauxite mine, good quality of bauxite, robust technology and highly experienced technical workforce are few strong pillars on which NALCO is supported.

    Cons

The location of its alumina refinery (Damanjodi), which used to a region of tranquility, is hot bed of Naxalite activities. Ageing of the workforce, decline in work culture, stagnation, high input cost and low LME price of metal are few important aspects, which are ailing NALCO. Very high pay package to the workers is also weighing heavy on NALCO's performance.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Tough stand to bring back discipline & work culture, Horizontal growth, organisational restructuring and golden shake hand scheme.
