I have been working at National Bank Financial full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

it's interesting to trade when you have your licence. You have important responsibilities to deal with. Good opening job, you can learn at lot of stuff in banking, investing, trading.

    Cons

It is enough to stay there for 1-2 years to get some experience on investment, but better find another job if you want to move forward for your career.

I worked at National Bank Financial

    Pros

NBF allows you to manage clients money as you, the advisor see fit. Good selection of product which is similar to other firms.

    Cons

Head office administration is not experienced or organized. Advisors cannot talk with HO staff. There is a team of people that take the advisors requests to HO. This is cumbersome and frustrating. Compliance with NBF is out of control and restrictive compared to other firms.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get your executive team working together effectively. Listen to advisor complaints and act on them. Get the bank, National Bank out of National Bank Financial's business.

I have been working at National Bank Financial full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Strong growth for business, great work/life balance, great team work environment, strong community involvement

    Cons

Archaic computer systems, limited career advancement opportunities (especially for anglophones), unsupportive and uninvolved HR staff, non-competitive salaries vis-a-vis other Canadian broker dealers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Concentrate on nurturing and developing talent from within as opposed to acquiring it from the outside. Make salaries more competitive in order to keep talent from going elsewhere.

I worked at National Bank Financial as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

Stimulating work environment with the opportunity to work on a variety of projects since summer analysts are in a generalist role. You can also ask to work mainly with a specific team.

    Cons

The training at the beginning of the internship is less formal than in other banks but most full-timers take the time to walk through the tasks when given for the first time,
