I worked at National Bank of Abu Dhabi

    Pros

    Tax free.
    Some decent managers.
Bank offers generous discounts to staff.

    Cons

Too many managers completely focused on politics and empire building.
The bank does not follow its own HR policies, and managers can get away with ridiculous self-serving decisions, and often do.
HR is constantly looking for ways to pay you less also by stripping benefits from staff.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Senior management need to be on the lookout for teams with high turnover, and investigate the causes rather than blindly believing managers who have form for bad behaviour.

I have been working at National Bank of Abu Dhabi

    Pros

Good working environment, nice people, better pay compare to market & proper training & learning opportunities at banks own academy. NBAD is the market leader as best arab bank both locally & globally.

    Cons

Something difficult to get promoted. You have to show off yourself & just performance is not enough. Also there are racism based on nationality & reference required to get increment or better position.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Higher management should deal directly to staff instead of depending too much on managers also should adjust pay based on position & performance.

I have been working at National Bank of Abu Dhabi full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

A respected brand all over UAE in both public and private sectors.
Salary scale is quite high compared to market competitors.
Job security is good as well.
The entire bank is undergoing a huge transformation process which will take couple of years to meet the vision of the new management.

    Cons

The atmosphere of the entire bank is just full of bureaucracy which is one of the main obstacles and disappointments.
The bank now only recruits outsourced staff which is badly affecting employee's sustainability.
I've never seen a bank with this huge number of managers and department heads (bureaucracy).
Change is always in low pace.
If you aren't local or in managerial level the bank won't invest in you unless you've some kind of connection somewhere!...

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please think customer first and then think employee second as they are your line of defense (not managers).
Most of "emiratisation" program requirements are actually with holding the bank from achieving its vision.

I have been working at National Bank of Abu Dhabi as a contractor (less than a year)

    Pros

Decent work-life balance. The largest, arguably most mature local bank. Interesting growth agenda.

    Cons

Feudal culture. Flawed KPIs. Resistance to change. Mind-numbing hiring process. Medieval HR practices. Audit runs the bank.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    1) Grow some. Support the change, don't just demand it.
    2) Trust and respect your people. They are your greatest asset.

I have been working at National Bank of Abu Dhabi as a contractor (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Salary and benefits are good. Work environment and colleagues good. Formerly had a good training program.

    Cons

Many are hired because of subject matter expertise and success in delivery, but are prevented from executing by both management and bureaucracy.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire the right people and let them do what they're good at.

I worked at National Bank of Abu Dhabi full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

A big & respected brand and although I was in their subsidiary, the visa was from the NBAD which generated respect and opportunities in the market. Good wholesome package for high grades ONLY.

    Cons

A great learning experience due to lack of proper JDs and staff. Lack of proper structure and working for their subsidiary did not help as the top management lacked vision and planning. The major issue was the denial for career growth.

A friendly and pleasant working environment

I worked at National Bank of Abu Dhabi as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

Good working environment where people were friendly and pleasant even to interns who were working there. The strategic planning department was organized with clear focus.

    Cons

I think the bank can afford to be a bit more efficient and ambitious on certain projects so they would be enacted faster.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I would have more targeted work schedules designed around focused goals so that work is completed in a more organized fashion. However I think it is extremely good that the emplyees enjoy the work environment and gain genuine respect and loyalty for the bank. Happy workers do make better workers.
