I worked at National Business Furniture full-time

    Pros

The employees are very serious about their work, and the company is extremely stable. Average pay, benefits and amenities. Best suited to those who like steady, unchanging work and don't mind micromanaging.

    Cons

Very old school - you're measured by the hours you clock vs. results achieved - exempt employees are expected to work 50+ hours per week whether they need to or not to get the job done. No flexibility or ability to work from home as management does not trust employees, so don't expect any concessions to work/life balance. In the past year, many of their best people have left, leaving lots of mediocre "lifers" who are vested in seeing that things don't change. FYI, the positive reviews here are posted by employees who were "strongly encouraged" to do so by upper management in an effort to keep ratings high.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you can't trust someone to do their job without micromanaging, then don't hire them. Don't assume every employee is out to slack or take advantage of the company.

    Pros

Stability, profitability, solid leadership and nice people to work with. Clean well kept facility and a very strong 401k and Profit Sharing benefit. A great place to work a long time. Business casual dress.

    Cons

It is a quiet place. If you like lots of chatter with coworkers, this isn't for you. Requires focus and attention to detail.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep up the good work at maintaining profit and growth.

I have been working at National Business Furniture

    Pros

A very consistent environment, where you don't have to deal with a lot of drama. People know what to expect each day. Quiet, respectful environment. Fair pay and above average benefits. Good PTO program. Offers the security of being with a well run, profitable organization.

    Cons

No real cons, except it is not an environment that everyone would appreciate. It is pretty much a very task focused place, that doesn't like much banter between employees. Nose to the grindstone kind of place.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep working on being better, and maybe you will get there. Nice strides forward in 2011, keep it going!

    Pros

    A paycheck and health insurance.

    Cons

There is lots of turnover in sales and there is a draw against commission which is normal but you are charged every expense they can think of.
Poor support from management,. There is lots of sales training but thats it.
Management only looks out for themselves.
    Immediate managers can be annoying.
There is a non compete agreement.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Learn some respect.

I worked at National Business Furniture full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Interesting sales work. Decent training. Excellent information sources for employees to access and long-time employees are very welcoming to new staff.

    Cons

Secretive management. Unreasonable expectations. Very poor HR skills. Expansion into Canada seriously hampered by inexperienced management. Too small a staff to absorb changes or challenges. Unwilling to accept constructive criticism.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Beware of showing favouritism when dealing with employees. Given the responsibility, workload and stressful environment, don't be so parsimonious with the wages and benefits you offer.

I worked at National Business Furniture

    Pros

Normal working house and good conditions. All tools necessary to perform your job are provided. Communication through out the company is GREAT!

    Cons

Very little "real" recognition for top performers. Some members of management leave something to be desired. Schedules are NOT flexible.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management should hold themselves accountable to the same set of rules that they expect of their workers. Overall though, doing a good job.
