I have been working at National Guard as a contractor for more than 7 years

I worked at National Guard full-time for more than 10 years
Pros – Fortunate to have received top-notch training during my entire career. Got to work with and interact with a lot of good Soldiers.
Cons – Pressure is always there at all levels to produce enlistments. Stress is very high and it is easy to go from being a hero one month to a zero the next month due to meeting one's quota or not.
Advice to Senior Management – Quality of life is often spoken about but rarely attained based on a constant demand to over produce enlistments.
No, I would not recommend this company to a friend

I have been working at National Guard full-time for more than 10 years
Pros – Great pay and benefits. Awesome coworkers. The rank and file really care and want to make a difference.
Cons – Enlisted and Junior Officers are hampered by COLs and GOs who stay way past thier careers have culminated.
Advice to Senior Management – Don't be afraid to be the bad guy. Tell some of the dead weight it is time to go.

I worked at National Guard full-time for more than 10 years
Pros – Steady pay, insurance, college benefits, paid training, retirement.
Cons – Very political at upper echelons. Incompetency seems to run rampant through much of the senior leadership. The Guard still runs on good ol' boy mentality. Knowing the right people allows some folks to get away with things that would get you court-martialed in the Regular Army.
Advice to Senior Management – There are too many senior officers in the AGR program at the state level and at NGB. Get rid of them- they cost a lot of money, and most of them have little to no responsibility.
Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

I worked at National Guard full-time for less than a year
Pros – Wide variety of missions, strong career growth opportunities, culture of mentorship, work/life balance, great pay and benefits, opportunities for travel.
Cons – Bureaucratic systems can be frustrating, headquartered in the suburbs of VA not near METRO, potential to find yourself professionally pigeonholed.
Advice to Senior Management – Give Guardmen the opportunity to weigh in on process improvement. Soldiers and civilians give tremendously of themselves because they believe in the mission, the best way to honor that is to ensure their time is well spent.
