    Pros

Great company to work for. These teachers really are looking out for their students. Working hard to bring out the best of each student.

    Cons

Can't seem to get back into the company. I know I did a good job while there, I just can's seem to be able to connect to the right people to help me get back in.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take advantage of older worker, they have a lot to offer, and are willing to give the job the very best of it.

    Pros

Some of the best reasons include the new innovative approach to classroom learning. When one thing is not bringing the test score results then Supervisors are more than willing to try another learning style. Another observation is the indivdualism of classroom management for the educator. Educator's appear to be encouraged to try new styles of learning within the guidelines and circulum.

    Cons

The benefits of Medical and dental only apply to fulltime employees and I believe there is no tenuring into the company. Parapro's posistions are only contigent upon title one funding.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Perhaps to cut some of the paperwork and tracking some the teacher is able to concentrate on more of the classroom.

    Pros

Company values + the ability impact the future through the students NHA serves. There are several opportunities to connect with the actual students and that makes it all worth it.
Benefits are best of the best, and even with Healthcare reform I could tell they worked hard to keep out-of-pocket costs reasonable. Variable rewards - consistently reviewing the culture, events, and reward programs to keep staff engaged and drive performance.

    Cons

work-life balance. Often-times the headcount did not support the additional work leadership expected to be rolled out.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider additional leadership training prior to individuals taking on leadership roles (enabling them to have discussions around NHA policies and processes, performance management, and to know when to engage an expert). Consider additional opportunities for flexibility of work schedule/time-off, as well as being proactive to adding headcount to avoid overworking your highest performers who are pulling the wagon.

NHA is an example of a successful Charter School company.

    Pros

After working for other Charter companies and even public school districts, I can say that NHA is organized, consistent, and has a strong support system in place for its schools and teachers. There is the chance for yearly raises attached to student achievement, parent feedback, performance, and progress toward teacher-set goals, which is assessed through weekly (!) observations and meetings. Within NHA's network of schools, upward mobility is encouraged - NHA pays 50% of graduate tuition for teachers, and 100% for some sponsored school leadership degrees. Because of NHA's extensive network of schools, there is the opportunity to switch to a new school - so even with the lack of job security in charter schools, there is a certain amount of mobility.

    Cons

There can be an excess of focus on test scores, but I believe that is more a product of today's educational environment in the United States than anything specific to NHA. Also, while it's job security and mobility is better than some charter schools, years gained at one NHA school are not necessarily counted when applying to a new NHA school. LIke many other charter schools, NHA schools are full of young teachers - some of them talented, passionate, and skilled - just "doing their time" until a more stable and sustainable job opens somewhere else. This is not ideal for school culture or student achievement.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Find some new strategies for improving the teacher turnover rate - perhaps allowing for transfers between NHA schools, to at least cut down on the number of new teachers hopping from school to school because they know that the loyalty and number of years in a charter school can count for nothing when applying to a public district (or another charter school.)

    Pros

Company tries to establish a culture of recognition.

    Cons

Low pay with long hours worked.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Compensate more to solve turnover issue. Less spent in "ramping up" new employees and orientation and more into retaining.

    Pros

Really works to achieve highly satisfied employee rating.

    Cons

As with most schools, salaries are low, and teachers are overworked. What affects me directly is there is no acknowledgement of the support staff.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Currently, support positions are overlooked in terms of professional development and incentives. Would like to see more opportunities for training that will help to sharpen current and/or add new skills. Would also like the opportunity to receive incentives in the way of bonuses when school-wide goals are achieved, as is available for the teachers.
