    Good but can be better

    Research Assistant (Current Employee)
    Singapore (Singapore)

ProsWell-accepted worldwide, especially in the asia-pacific region, and world class facilities. It offers a quite comprehensive and balanced education experience. And there is enough teaching training required for research student, which is a great advantage for seeking jobs after graduation

ConsThe support for attending conferences and participating in long-term research programs outsides Singapore is really limited. Some requirement for research staff is really burdensome.

Advice to Senior ManagementMore support for all kinds of activities

    Research Engineer (Current Employee)
    Singapore (Singapore)

ProsFamiliar school environment for fresh grads. No politics, no stress, 100% work life balance.

ConsToo far from the east. Commercial do not recognise any academic position experience as 'working experience'. You get offer fresh grad pay regardless.

Advice to Senior ManagementNeed more micromanagement else things start to get inefficient.

    Confortable

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

Prosthe No.1 University in South East Asia. There are many researchers come from all over the world and various fields.

ConsFar from downtown. Not easy to access to MRT. Have troublesome negotiations for an annual evaluation for promotion.

Mostly self-managed to deliver outcome of project

    Research Assistant (Former Employee)
    Singapore (Singapore)

ProsHired on contract basis for one year. Close working relationship with principal investigator as a research assistant. Given the liberty to manage project schedule and project budget. University environment is a comfortable working space.

ConsUsually worked alone as colleagues are all working on different projects. Still good space for discussions on common topics. Working in the field entails enduring hot weather and forest environments which some might find uncomfortable.

    Worked in research

    Research Associate (Former Employee)
    Singapore (Singapore)

Pros*Singapore is a fun place to be as an expat
*Lots of interesting Biotech research going on

I worked there for a summer as an intern in a research lab during my undergrad. It was useufl in that it gave me a work history to build on and some good recommendations. I definitely wouldn't recommend Singapore as a great place to pursue an academic or research career unless you are well along in your development (ie Phd or MD).

    Cons*Weather sucks
*Work culture is horrendous in the research labs

Advice to Senior ManagementIncentivize creativity and stop the infighting
