I have been working at National University of Singapore full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

NUS is huge. Every faculty, central office is an individual organisation and culture on its own. Therefore you can't use your experience for the whole NUS. In general, NUS offers good training opportunity, nice HR benefits, systematic and clear career path if you plan to stay in long term.

    Cons

For a faculty, the treatment for different categories of staff is widely varied. Most important is faculty staff, followed by admin staff, then research assistant staff. This usually affects the staff's morale.
Salary increment is relatively modest, career advancement can be slow.

I worked at National University of Singapore as a contractor for more than 3 years

    Pros

The working environment is very relaxed. You can reach your lab at any time and leave at any time. Reporting officer is also quite lax on the topic of research as long as you publish papers for him

    Cons

One of the downside is that it is only on a contract basis. You need to continually apply for funding to support yourself. Also, there is no usually no bonus given. Hence, the total package for a research fellow is relatively low.
