I have been working at National Wine & Spirits (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Flexible hours. Great ability to move up if willing or able to relocate. Excellent management team.

    Cons

If unable to relocate, moving up within the company is difficult. Pay increases strictly depend on sales.

I worked at National Wine & Spirits full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Worked in the IT Dept as a developer. Great group of people. IT director was laid back, but efficient. Not a lot of micromanaging which makes a better work environment. Everyone in my dept were very helpful and I didn't have to deal with over inflated egos especially since the majority of dept. were men. Overall, a great company to work for.

    Cons

Very unstable industry to work in especially as a distributor. It seems the business is fully dependent on the company's history with the suppliers.

    Advice to Management

Management need to be more proactive in dealing with their people and depend less on the "seniored" employees in dealing with the departmental issues. Not so much in the IT dept, but definitely in other departments where I've seen squabbles and pettiness.

    Pros

Discount on up to "a" case of wine. Job stability...Hardly ever lay off. Definitely will keep you in top physical shape!

    Cons

Upper management treats employees like they're in a zoo. No compassion for anything. Always possibility of strike. Weird hours for warehouse crew.

    Advice to Management

Listen to some of the quarms of your employees. You should institute a policy that drivers have to work warehouse before they can drive to see how hard the warehouse crew has to work to fill those trucks. It's NO cakewalk.

    Pros

Wonderful training, effective communication by supervisor and coworker, solid team spirit that was promoted by the leaders, positive recognition and management support and follow-up, good pay and bonus structure, great health benefits. The company really cares about their customers and employees.

    Cons

The type of business often calls for some long days, a lot of driving, and some weekend duties. But it well worth it. The company sold and is no longer in business in ILL.

    Advice to Management

Start over again, rebuild in more states. You have winning formula.

    Pros

Ability to go to events that wouldn't normally go to. Bonus opportunities and opportunities for advancement fairly quickly as long as you establish that you are able to handle the workloads

    Cons

Poor communication by management. Expectations of managers for certain things that are simply unattainable. They would know that if they spent time in the market with Account Managers.

    Advice to Management

Proper communication even if it is bad. Communication is asked of the sales force and it should be recipricated by management. Transparency is always key.
