Current Employee – been working at Nationwide Building full-time for more than 3 years
Pros – the people are nice to work with
Cons – backstabbing if you want to get promotions and lots of people progressing due to who you know rather than what you know.
Advice to Senior Management – none
Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

Current Employee – been working at Nationwide Building full-time for more than a year
Pros – Excellent for one who has no drive in career development, fantastic for those that want to get out of the house whilst the kids are at school.
Having said that i do believe some people make a genuine concerted effort to progress, though as with anything there is an inherent resistance to change as pioneered by management.
Cons – Recruitment process is not particularly transparent as senior managers have an 'idea' of who they would like in their particular span of control, this gives rise to those being employed on the basis of who they know as opposed to arriving on merit (a term that seems to be non-existent herein).
overall as discussed, pro's outweigh the negative management but be prepared to make massive sacrifices to entertain management whims.
Advice to Senior Management – with all due respect i certainly would suggest that you monitor your deputies control a number of branches within their span. cliques often form with long standing staff, though isolate 'newblood'.
people have previously mentioned high staff turnover, perhaps if there is anything worth taking from a bank it is this; adopt a policy whereby no staff member spends longer that 2 years in a particular role, this way you have better skilled staff across divisions especially the computer illiterate staff inherent in your branch networks (i feel for the members). Moving people around divisions/branches will help create a diverse work culture and actually attract people with the skills sets that you so greatly need.
I have since moved to a PLC with the aforementioned 'up and out' policy and i am looking at my first promotion in 7 months!

Former Employee – worked at Nationwide Building full-time for more than a year
Pros – Good training, friendly people, relaxed atmosphere. I enjoyed my first few months there and the bonus was related to performance and it did make me put the effort in. I was also given some oppurtunity to devlop.
Cons – Very Cliquey, Stupid conflicting targets and expectations, conflicting messages from senior managment to what line managers say. The company is trying to cut cost wherever possible, whilst asking us to be more efficent spend less time talking to customer / dealing with queries we were also expected to hit a sales target and deliver the best service possible. It isnt possible to sell to someone with rapport and consultative sales whilst hitting cost cutting targets.
Advice to Senior Management – Take on board what people say and look at your staff turnover. Doesnt paint a good picture of Direct

Current Employee – been working at Nationwide Building
Pros – It s a bank but not a bank. Very low risk takers, good deals for the customers. Organization with the define set of values. If you looking for the stable employment then you are in good place.
Cons – Old back office systems, old-fashion way of working, although undergoing lots of changes. Not enough training and development possibilities. Low salaries compare to the other companies in the financial sector.
Advice to Senior Management – Think more about training and development needs of employees. Invest in people more and it will pay off in the future.

Current Employee – been working at Nationwide Building
Pros – Good pay
Not as aggressive with sales targets as other banks
Cons – Limited products which generate value for the branch (eg: savings accounts and bonds dont count towards targets unlike banks)
Training could be better for cashiers.
Advice to Senior Management – Listen to your staff ans show you care for them. Politeness costs nothing but makes a difference to morale. Make sure you are giving your staff th training and tools thy need to perform their jobs.

Former Employee – worked at Nationwide Building
Pros – Recognised brand and financial services name, good product reputation and loyal customer base
Cons – Lack of promotion and leadership, no mentoring and analysis of employees' potential
Very cliquey with older employees not willing to integrate, train and work as a team
Poor pay and bonus structure
Advice to Senior Management – Do some more work on the ground with employees, promote mentoring. Simplify the bonus structure. Allow meritocracy to occur in head office and branch roles. Allow and promote integration between head office and retail branch networks. Be more genuine and approachable - in particular area and head office management. Be open about your reviews and checks of systems
