Pros
Good benefits
Leaders care about employees
Good time-off policies
Exposure to senior leadership
Opportunities for advancement
Cons
It's all about who you know
Too many jobs moving to Columbus, Ohio
Poor bonus structure
Lack of "pay for performance"
Not an innovative company
Best way to get more money is to leave and come back
Poor leaders do not get fired, just moved around
Advice to Senior Management
Nationwide is a great company, but it is becoming more political than ever.
Pros
The job is challenging but not rewarding.
Cons
The amount of cases are too high to practice effectively.
Advice to Senior Management
Senior management needs to realize that litigation is not driven by metrics.
Pros
Many opportunities for personal growth both inside and outside the company.
Cons
The Allied/Nationwide merger has been challenging, and at times stressful, for everyone.
Advice to Senior Management
Communication is essential to keeping people content. When you are not communicating, they tend to believe the worst.
Pros
Columbus OH is a great place to raise a family and Nationwide is a top employer in Columbus. There are many different career paths from which to choose.
Cons
As with any large firm, there are a lot of politics that employees must be sensitive too. If you have been in the government, you will do fine here.
Advice to Senior Management
Walk the talk - be transparent and recognize when you aren't. Genuinely ask for input on key issues facing employees.
Pros
The local office is close and the drive-in even closer. I am familiar with most people working there and all are experienced as me
Cons
I am not experienced in BI and property claims and most appraisers are expected to be multi line covering both and the drive-in as well
Advice to Senior Management
Do not place inexperienced appraisers in a line where they can potentially cause a problem that others will need to spend time solving
Pros
Good coworkers, room for advancement but only if willing to move. Average pay, use the same matrix pay structure as most insurance companies which means you can only make average pay
Cons
Closing offices, making people work at home. Have gone overboard on cost cutting and increasing workload. On the claims side they spent more time/money on audits than training. Very little feedback received - management motto seems to be "if you can say anything bad to an employee, don't say anything at all"
Advice to Senior Management
Controll costs, but employees are people, not widgets. You want to become a world-class customer service organization, your people have to feel valued enough to deliver that
Pros
Smart and strong executive leaders, very good benefits and perks, employee discounts, strong diversity and inclusion program
Cons
Tends to be a bureaucratic structure, difficult to have decisions made, sometimes employees struggle with work/ life balance, very top heavy organization with a lot of leaders and not always enough people to do the work
Advice to Senior Management
Re-evaluate the structure and tiering of employees. This could lead to many efficiencies and less duplicate work. Managers and HR could also focus more on developing employees and empowering them to do their work and make decisions.
Pros
They have great benefits including 401k, medical, dental, and weird insurance.
Cons
There was too much office politics that I couldn't stand it.
Advice to Senior Management
Management wasn't very helpful with me and all they care about is the bottom line.
Pros
1.Easy work hours
2.Job security
3. you can find/make good friends easily
4. Very Good cafeteria
5. Benefits are ok.
Cons
Health insurance was good until 2009 after that it is really bad, Management is a big screw up! .. It doesn't matter what you do for them, don't expect even a single favor in return.. They very easily let talent go.. hiring process is crappy..Dont be amazed if you find people working with you who dont know anything about their job.
Advice to Senior Management
Don't let talent go, and stopping making all those administrative changes every year... nothing is being gained with that, Plan Build Run was a big disaster!!
Pros
- Company car with full benefit (gas, insurance, free use)
- Opportunity for lateral moves if willing to relocate
- Freedom during workday
Cons
- Management does not leave - very little climbing the corporate Ladder
- People leave and they do not replace them.. more work with less people
- Many offices have been regionalized making relocation the only option to change postions
