    Depends on Which Department

Pension Specialist (Current Employee) Columbus, OH

ProsGreat Company, Good Team, most people work hard. The compensation is high for a Midwestern company. Very little overtime required.

ConsOne's experience at Nationwide is highly contingent on the department and business division. Annuities is awful where the margins are low and both employee and management education is relatively low or not apparent. Retirement plans was a great Department. High margins, section of the market cornered. Corporate culture rules in all departments.

Advice to Senior ManagementFlatten the hierarchy (remove tiers), empower employees, improve career development.

If only you knew people on the inside, then you'd be offered permanent employment."

IT Analyst (Former Employee) Columbus, OH

ProsGreat people. The people you work with or even meet briefly are amazing.

ConsManagement is incredibly unprofessional and moronic. Unless you are a white male, you're word does not matter.

Advice to Senior ManagementStart opening your doors to more minorities and females in the IT sector. You could benefit from it.

An outstanding, policyholder-focused company that has established the gold standard for Agile software development.

Agile Coach (Former Employee) Columbus, OH

ProsEvery single image, color, and line of text on a Nationwide Financial site or app has meaning and is carefully evolved by the team that created it. The IT talent is the absolute best I've ever worked with.

ConsSome new execs could use focus on how to be an executive.

Advice to Senior ManagementYour rapid growth is producing newly promoted execs who have not learned to be execs. Invest in them.

Great company but pay increases are hard to come by

    Retirement Specialist (Current Employee)

ProsAs Retirement Specialist, the job is laid back and you are almost your own boss. The company tries to give you as many resources to do your job well.

ConsThey need to have a better pay structure because increases are hard to come by esp if you have worked there for years.
Upward mobility opportunities are also scarce, you have to move out to move up

Advice to Senior ManagementBe more involved with team members for constant feedback etc
