I worked at Nationwide Financial full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

There was plenty of training for my position, and, depending on which department you are in, there are plenty of opportunities for growth. As with any large company, it helps to try to stand above the rest.

    Cons

It's easy to feel lost the crowd.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Maintain transparency about departmental changes.

I worked at Nationwide Financial as a contractor for less than a year

    Pros

If you are looking for sponsorship & don't mind 50+ hours a week then this job is for you. Or if you never worked in IT before it's a great place to get training although you will be required to make up that time.

    Cons

OT mandatory & on-call required for developers. No added pay or benefit. Just my experience and observation.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop abusing the sponsored employee and comparing their no other choice work ethic to those of us that know what you are up to.

I have been working at Nationwide Financial full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Nationwide as offers decent benefits and pay. There are plenty of different roles, so you are likely to find a job no matter your skill set. Property services such as cafes, library, study rooms, classes, etc. are all good.

    Cons

The people are difficult to work with and unmotivated. Role clarity is constantly in flux, you rarely know what you're responsible for. Processes are developed around "job security" rather than what is most efficient and cost-effective. Mix these with the constant politicking and you're frustrated before you even come in to the office.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hold people accountable for the behavior as well as their work quality and ethics. Stop excusing behavior simply because of tenure.

I worked at Nationwide Financial full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

They sponsored me for my Series 6

    Cons

Hard work is not valued at this company. Results are not a basis for promotion. Neither is product or industry knowledge. If you'd like to move up, practice your political skills and don't rock the boat. Nothing should ever be questioned.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Create a culture that values creativity, hard work, passion, and dedication instead of one focused on playing perfectly in the sandbox.

I have been working at Nationwide Financial full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great Company, Good Team, most people work hard. The compensation is high for a Midwestern company. Very little overtime required.

    Cons

One's experience at Nationwide is highly contingent on the department and business division. Annuities is awful where the margins are low and both employee and management education is relatively low or not apparent. Retirement plans was a great Department. High margins, section of the market cornered. Corporate culture rules in all departments.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Flatten the hierarchy (remove tiers), empower employees, improve career development.

    Pros

Great people. The people you work with or even meet briefly are amazing.

    Cons

Management is incredibly unprofessional and moronic. Unless you are a white male, you're word does not matter.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start opening your doors to more minorities and females in the IT sector. You could benefit from it.

I worked at Nationwide Financial as a contractor for more than a year

    Pros

Every single image, color, and line of text on a Nationwide Financial site or app has meaning and is carefully evolved by the team that created it. The IT talent is the absolute best I've ever worked with.

    Cons

Some new execs could use focus on how to be an executive.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Your rapid growth is producing newly promoted execs who have not learned to be execs. Invest in them.
