I worked at Nationwide full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Many marketing opportunities, rewarded for skills, and excellent team. I was there for 5 years and as I move through my life and my career, I realize it was one of the best experiences that helped to shape me as a marketer. Benefits are decent, better than others I have worked for.

    Cons

You have to be your own advocate for growth, but opportunities are definitely there. Office culture is professional and fun. I made some friends for a lifetime there.

I have been working at Nationwide full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

The employees are very helpful and will support you in case of problems. Also the company reimburses upto $5000 for education. Its a good company to start a career.

    Cons

Nationwide's benefits still have a long way to go. For example, they have one option for health insurance which has a very high deductible. The pay and bonuses also need work in order to match the competition.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Let the employees have more health plans to choose from, improve on the bonus and salary. Nationwide employees are very dedicated and would love to know that the company appreciates them. Consider matching the competition on bonuses and salary.

    Pros

Great people. Nice facilities, onsite gym and cafeteria. Comprehensive training for insurance sales. Great learning experience for branching into the financial industry.

    Cons

Constant compensation revisions never in favor with the agents. Large disconnect from sales management and employees. Recent Gallup survey conducted onsite showed that agents were wanting more personal interaction from management and supervisors. Management elected an individual from each sales team to brainstorm ideas for them, insulting many employees. The sales environment has transitioned away from friendly competition to metrics based micromanagement. I.E. top producers can be withheld compensation for not hitting minute metrics. In the past year the ideology shifted from growth and rewarding sales to making sure employees fielded the right amount of calls. The new motto for the department was JAMODI (Just A Matter Of doing It) providing rewards for mediocrity and ignoring top producing agents.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Provide employees consistent goals that align with attainable compensation structure. Allow agents the opportunity to hit sales goals without constant micromanagement.

    Pros

It's great working here if you like flexibility and the freedom to be your own boss.

    Cons

It's hard to keep customers when the company is constantly increasing rates at every renewal period. Lately we have not been competitive. Several companies are beating us on price.

    Pros

Company vehicle, good culture and company values, time-off policies, career development

    Cons

Compensation, high volume of work, work-life balance, management

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire a sufficient number of associates to handle the extremely high claim volume. Lots of room for improvement when it comes to initial training and acclimation of the job.

I worked at Nationwide full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Great people with tons of experience. Some devoted employees who love what they do.

    Cons

Ivory tower syndrome... Home office is disconnected from the employees who are the legs and arms of the company. Don't believe everything you read about them either. They are very good at encouraging happy employees to post and boost their ratings. They also have a history of finding "things" to fire you for so they won't be on the hook for unemployment and they can remove older workers with no strings. They have very high UI denial rates.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

HO may be the brain of NW's existence but without a body to carry things out you have nothing.
