I worked at Natividad Medical Center full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

The only good reason to work here is that it's close to the Monterey area, and the work life balance is OK.

    Cons

Poor pay (no bonuses), bottom of the barrel IT work, no respect, disparate job duties (actually, really disparate job duties), no clear focus, no cool factor. Hospital IT is not cool or respectable in the IT world like working at the giant techs or start ups. And, it can be a stressful gig since they're always pulling their analysts in all sorts of directions.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay your IT staff more. Otherwise, we're going to jump ship for the Silicon Valley where the IT salaries are easily over $130k.

I have been working at Natividad Medical Center full-time

    Pros

Your work will directly impact the quality of patient care, which is very rewarding. Any talents or abilities you have will be used to the fullest. For the most part, IT staff are dedicated, hard-working, bright, and pleasant.

    Cons

This is an extremently disorganized, fledgling IT department. There is a lack of leadership and vision from senior management. There is no strategic planning, no clear goals, and no real training or development.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The department needs to be completely overhauled, with permanent managers who are FTEs, rather than consultants who do not have NMC's long-term interests in mind.
