Good place to work for a couple years, but not to stay as a "lifer"

Senior Consultant (Former Employee)
New York, NY

I worked at Navigant Consulting full-time for more than a year

ProsWell known firm in the consulting industry. Nice to have on a resume as a segway to applying to other firms, and top business schools.

ConsThe salary and bonus is below industry average, but the hours are the same as industry average. There are a lot of politics regarding promotions - you are either on the inside or the outside.

Navigant is a good "starter wife" consultancy

Senior Consultant (Former Employee)
Washington, DC

I worked at Navigant Consulting full-time for more than 3 years

ProsFriendly and intelligent co-workers. There was an opportunity to work on some very interesting and challenging projects, but they are usually on top of other work you had to complete.

ConsWorked too many hours for the pay. I got pulled into working on mortgage crisis projects and there was no opportunity to get out.

Good company!

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at Navigant Consulting full-time for less than a year

ProsVery smart people
Collaborative work environment across offices
High level of integrity and wanting to do the best for the client and Navigant
Strong push across senior mgmt. for one culture and good momentum across employees with the message

ConsStill has some challenges with fully integrating some acquisitions
Some senior level folks still have a "cowboy" attitude

Horrible Company to Work For

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
Chicago, IL

I worked at Navigant Consulting full-time for more than a year

ProsAbsolutely nothing positive to say about this company

ConsNo longevity or career paths in place.
It's all about the money
They hire people who are unqualified
They have no concept of budget and waste tons of money
They bully there employees thinking it will produce work. Then they try to build them back up by saying nice things about the work that was produced.
They lack vision and focus.
Tons of unhappy and miserable people.
No interaction with Upper Mgmt. as it pertains to everyday employees
They use people to do their dirty work
Pay raises are based on what they want to pay with NO measuring tools in place, basically you get cost of living increases.
Never anything good to say from there employees.
People get hired or promoted based on who they know (with no experience) over other highly qualified people

Advice to Senior ManagementYou lack vision and character. Get to know the people in your company who are making you the money to pay your excessive salaries.

Merger/Acquisition Approach to growth equals no communication or culture

Associate Director (Current Employee)
Los Angeles, CA

I have been working at Navigant Consulting full-time for more than a year

ProsGood global reach for mid-sized firm
On paper, practice groups are complimentary

ConsNo communication...from anyone about anything
Aggressive sales culture prohibits collaboration
Lack of Leadership
No enforcement of best practices or common go to market strategy
No tracking tools adds to dysfunctional and backstabbing
Very siloed practice groups
Slow internal processes, many of which are unnecessary

Advice to Senior ManagementTalent is in place, yet an attitude of resignation is in place to the dysfunction due to your collective weakness as leaders. Revenue goals could be accomplished and exceeded by implementing and enforcing a standard approach that is practiced by all. Lack of education and understanding of various practice groups. Even admin pool have negative attitudes/do whatever they want.
