I have been working at Navigant Consulting full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Very interesting work, high profile clients, network of intelligent people with strong drive for growth and collaboration across Energy Practice

    Cons

Low opportunity to pursue projects with business models other than fees for time and materials, performance / incentive compensation is inadequate

    Advice to Management

Expand business to include more at-risk / success based fees for professional services such as project development and investment advisory

    Pros

The company is small and it's easy to have access to upper management. Consultants are encouraged to be involved in sales and have the opportunity to be involved in the sales pipeline from the beginning.

    Cons

They play favorites and promote certain people over and over again. If you're not one of the "chosen" few, it is slow to get promoted. The company also has horrible management skills and they have no idea how to integrate younger talent.

    Advice to Management

Hold an anonymous poll to see which directors and middle level management are not doing a good job. Also, management needs to not have favorites.

I worked at Navigant Consulting full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

At Navigant you are given a lot of responsibility and exposure to clients, which is great for development for people right out of college. I found directors I liked working with, and therefore I liked the projects and had a good experience there.

    Cons

Company is very fragmented across practices (e.g. energy, financial services, life sciences), partly due to it growth by acquisition strategy, and each group has it's own culture. On my team, integration post merger could have been handled better. Also, working long hours and being overstaffed on multiple projects is not uncommon. Also after 2 years, the projects become repetitive.

    Advice to Management

Focus on leadership alignment across offices and legacy teams

I worked at Navigant Consulting full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

They hire really talented mid-level consultants

    Cons

Management has no direction, overwork staff and seem not to care about the high turnover. Little quality work in Financial services and as a result senior staff likes to hog the meaningful work

    Advice to Management

Stop grooming the same type of people for success and embrace employees who bring diverse skill sets and work experience

I have been working at Navigant Consulting as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Interned with Navigant this summer and had a great experience. The firm was professional and let me dip my feet in higher level work. I got to work directly with a Managing Director, which was pretty cool since most interns barely even meet their higher-ups. They also went out of their way to make sure they planned fun events for us (the interns) and got exposure to a variety of practices within the firm. Met a lot of friends.

    Cons

Sporadic deadlines, my supervisors often had to work long hours and come into the office on weekends. Other than New York , DC, and Chicago the offices are small.

Thank you for sharing your internship experience. We work to ensure that our interns have an opportunity to experience all that Navigant has to offer and glad to see that you did.

I have been working at Navigant Consulting full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Very flexible work arrangement (work remotely when needed, work odd-hours when needed, take off two hours in middle of day for appointments, etc.) Enthusiastic, bright, and engaging junior staff Plentiful initial training opportunities Commitment to diversity

    Cons

Strict hierarchy Uninspiring executive team Incohesive corporate/management goals/message Lack of training opportunities after first year Little emphasis on professional development Little support for pursuing learning opportunities Bloated management and executive compensation Inconsistent vacation policies Aggressive acquisition campaign destroys 'close-knit' culture

    Advice to Management

Tie management and executive compensation to median employee salary (no more than 20x median salary for executives, 10x for management) Provide consistent and cohesive firm-wide goals Focus on employees you already have, not companies you want to acquire Encourage training and professional development from the top down Provide consistent vacation allowances to employees of all levels Try to spend a day-in-the-life of administrators, consultants, and analysts to gain perspective Start a sustainability initiative to limit reckless waste of resources (electricity, paper, ink, water, heating/cooling)
