I have been working at Navigant Consulting full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

    -Complex, challenging engagements
    -Many young, smart people
-Strong focus on training and continuing education
-Flexible work arrangements, among other initiatives, are currently in the works

    Cons

    -Not a great work/life balance
-Inefficiency is rewarded here; bonuses are based on utilization, rather than quality of work
-Managing Directors can get away with some pretty appalling behavior if they're bringing enough business

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make sure that your consultants do not get lost; assign mentors to the young people.

I worked at Navigant Consulting as a contractor (more than an year)

    Pros

The pay was good. The bosses allowed you a good amount of freedom. There was pressure, but it was not too bad and only during crunch periods.

    Cons

There is not a good deal of foresight. You never really know where you stand, if the job will continue, and what you will be doing next.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Greater clarity. While it is in management's best interest to keep employees, they should give some indication (truthful) of whether the project will go on and what the plans for the future may be. It may seem that telling employees their job will end in two weeks may cause everyone to "jump ship", my experience was the opposite. The lack of truthful notice of the future, only caused the good employees to leave. Most people stayed around and would have either way.
